Clutch, what to buy?
I have a 87' rx-7 nonturbo and think i need a new clutch. When driving the car hard, hole shots, the rmp's will rise but my speed wont. Only notice it after the clutch gets warmed up. I think the clutch is over heating. Checked clutch fluid. The clutch does not instantly engage.
Thinking of getting a stage 1 Clutch master kit. Where can i get it the cheapest? how much $ would it be installed? |
Unless your running a ton of mods the stock clutch should serve your needs just fine. But if you have money burning a hole in your pocket I have heard good things about ACT and Clutchmasters, stay away from Centerforce.

Whats up people..U dont need all these gripping clutches. Theirs a clutch RX-7.com selz called street clutch. It is basically stock but holds 10 percent better. for an N/A 10 percent more is perfect for one that has intake exaust some porting.

thanks for the feed back.
checked out rx7.com and it was $199.95 clutch master is $206.58 and claims 70% holding capacity on thier site. Might as well go with the cutch master.... |
ACT and forget the rest...

My ACT clutch is great grips hard!!

anything but CENTERFORCE!!

I haven't had any trouble with my Bonez Strip/Street clutch.......awesome pulling (IMO) for an N/A...make sure you complement the replacement clucth with a new shift kit (Bushings and so on), T/O & Pilot bearing, check your slave cynlinder and the stock rubber line to it....it cracks with the engine heat and may expand more so than normal (Lack of pressure or minimal pressure)...you may also wanna check your flywheel...there's a big debate whether to re-surface or not.......I had mine re-surfaced and so far so great....Happy motoring.....

Cheap clutch kits ranging from $130 to $200(performance kit). Its what Im going to run when the time comes. (Almost there) |
big debate over resurfacing of fly wheel?
whats that all about ? whats the debate? |
My mechanic only installs ACT clutches. He swears by them, and he's never had to replace one that he's installed. I was looking at Centerforce when I was pricing things out but he talked me out of that pretty quickly. The ACT (6 disc copper puck thingy) now in my NA 86 is 5 by 5. $245 Cdn.
Btw, the clutch was the only thing replaced. But if you want to get all nuts ACT has a full 'street' package that you can install. :) ttyl, Amur_ |
ACT race six puck all the way :D
