Clutch Problem
Recently installed a new clutch, throw-out bearing and pilot bearing in my 88 Vert. I check the flywheel and it was in good conditon so I didn't have it resurfaced.
The problem is: I have the same problems as I did before I replaced the clutch. It smokes when I use it a lot. And the car makes a wierd cherping (twiking noise that sounds like the clutch is slipping, or something is slipping). This mostly happens when I am in gear at lower RPM's when I am slowing down. My question is: is there some other type of adjustment I can make to the clutch to elimanate the problems? Thanks for your ideas. Bob |
My car has this noise too but I beleive that my bearings are just too old.
The snoking may just be the car showing its age and prior abuses by other owners. |
When replacing the clutch it is highly recommended to replace the Master Cylinder and the Slave. Perhaps one or both of these items is working improperly and causing your problem.

Make certain you have adequate freeplay in the pedal. If none, the throw out bearing could be riding on the pp and not allowing enough clamping pressure to be apllied to the disc properly, resulting in slippage, especially in lower gears.

Thank you for the feedback. Good advice and gives me a place to start!
