well i got an 86 gxl for $50.. needs a few things.. but anyways.. i was looking and saw the clutch pedal is all the way to the floor... so i pulled it up and BOING.. it sprung up and back into the original position.. so i was like cool... then i pressed in on it again and it went all the way to the floor and stayed there... anyone know what is wrong with it? i am new to the second gen section.. but i have 2 first gens.

You need a clutch master cylinder rebuild kit. Maybe 12 bucks at auto zone. Take assuming you checked the fluid level in the cylinder. And tried to bleed it. Sometimes even if they're bad you can bleed them and use it a while. Especially if it has set a long time.

The bleed screw is on the slave cylinder. Which is on top of the transmission close to the oil filter.

But It probably needs rebuilt. There are two studs attached to the master cylinder that stick through the firewall. Go inside the car and take off the two nuts and it will slide out. Then there will be a snap ring at the plunger on the back take of that ring and pull out the plunger and replace with the new one.

Your pic is for the Brake master cylinder, the clutch one is to the right of the pics behind the strut tower and towards the firewall.

I would bleed air from the clutch fluid before going ahead and replacing parts. Seen that a few times.

Crap! Thank you I fixed it. :)

Yeah I have done that before too you just have to add fluid once in a while. But really if it's bad it leaks out the back and down the fire wall taking paint with it. Which over time is a mess.

Well I'm at work right now let me look through my pics. What line is it? There are two on the drivers side that come straight up one comes from the filter the other goes back to the return. They both connect beside each other.

Camrann 07-19-05 06:36 PM

fuck rebuilding it. Buy a new one.

evil_motors 07-19-05 06:38 PM

amish boy.. well one goes to a hard line and the other is just not connected to anything.

i hope this works...

This is a turbo but for what we're talking about ignore that. In the picture you see it goes up from the fuel filter over to the primary rail up to the secondary rail and back down beside the fuel filter. There should be two metal lines beside each other above the fuel filter.

Like Camrann said, just replace the master and slave cylinder with new units. Rebuilding them is kinda hit or miss (depending on why they failed); so why not just put down the money for new ones and get some peace of mind?

evil_motors 07-19-05 07:18 PM

okay so i am missing my fuel filter also.. i see.

evil_motors 07-19-05 07:19 PM

yeah i am hooked up to the metal lines.. just not the fuel filter.. so i need to find out where that goes..

Well the fuel filter should have been down at the bottom of the car. There is another metal line down where it should have been.

So the fuel filter has rubber lines on both ends. The other metal line is down by the sub frame. Hey look around inside the car maybe it's in there. You should replace it and if you're missing rubber line make sure you get high pressure line.

ah hah .. the fuel filter is where the battery is supposed to be.. so where exactly should it go ? lol sorry if i am a pain in the ass

Well jack the car up and use jack stands shake the hell out of the car make sure it's stable. Put something under the tire like a ramp. What I'm saying is be careful. The fuel filter goes just behind the front tire on the drivers side just inside of the thing that looks like a frame rail. Notice I said looks like a frame rail don't try to jack the car up with that.

I'm havin the same problem but mine will pump up a bit then go right back to droppin to the floor. I changed the slave and bled it using the tube and cup of oil.
No luck. Should I just go ahead and swap the master?
