Clutch for high HP
 

Im building a street/track fc that will be capable of about 750-800hp. What is a good clutch for under $700 that can handle that amount of power but is also good for street usage?

You'll be hard pressed to find a streetable clutch that can grab at that high horsepower.... The idea of a 750-800 hp streetable car seems like a stretch in itself...

the ONLY thing you can find for the price and purpose is a used twin disc exedy clutch and there are VERY few of them in the US for the FC3S, you'll probably have to do as i am doing for a customer now which is use the FD bell housing and clutch hydraulics for the FD pull type twin disc clutch.

i don't believe i have seen a single disc clutch hold that kind of power, if you can find one it sure won't last long.. nor will the transmission for that matter.

most twin discs are well over $1k new.

At those power levels why constrain yourself to $700 for the clutch? It seems like it's gonna cost a lot to get there anyway. ACT has the Z65-XXG6 for up to 673ft.lbs. of torque, but that is gonna be pushing it pretty hard, it's under $700 though. I'm sure someone who knows more about clutches will chime in.

single clutches are hit and miss, i've seen the single disc Spec brand clutches give out at almost half their rated torque... they are shit. exedy and ACT are the closest to their rated power levels, i try to stick to ACT personally because i have never had an issue with their clutches even in high horsepower applications on street driven cars that were driven daily. but with single disc puck clutches you lose all feeling of a streetable car as it turns to an on/off switch. twin discs bring more of a streetable feel back to the car while almost doubling the torque rating of the clutch.

beyond 600WHP it becomes almost nonsence to even try to keep the FC TII transmission and just upgrade to something more stout. although people have run 8's on the stock transmission, i wouldn't consider those as baselines since they were lightened cars and had the luck of the draw on their side, one bad launch and it's BOOM!

Since this is obviously for a V8, you should ask this question on an internet forum which covers the make and model from which you salvaged the transmission. The McLeod RST street twin clutch would probably be a good candidate.

First of all, an RX-7 transmission is going to explode at 800hp, so you will either need to obtain a suitable used V8 transmission or a racing transmission. Assuming you are drag racing with slicks, I don't think the stock differential and halfshafts are going to work very well either. Secondly, I hope you realize that it is going to take a lot of skill and money to make that kind of power with a 13B engine, so it is pretty silly to worry about the budget for your clutch.

There is if you convert to a domestic transmission.

some of the highest HP I've seen on an Rx-7 transmission is Banzai Racing's 20B FD. It's running over 600hp to the wheels and almost 500 torque with a factory FD transmission and a twin disc clutch.

If I were the OP, I'd go all or nothing. Run a T2 transmission with a single disc puck clutch or go all out and do a T56 or some kind of automatic tranny for drag racing.

I will not be running the car at 800hp constantly. I jus want to know a good clutch that is capable of holdin that amount of power when it does see those numbers.
