clutch fluid doubt

I have a rx7 TII, any one know what's the recomended fluid? Can i use dot 5.1 brake fluid on cluth? or this oil is bad for the clutch cylinders?

As a general rule you should not mix different types of DOT fluid. DOT 3 is what is recommended for our cars. DOT 5.1 like 3 and 4 is glycol based and should be fine, but I have no experience with it personally.

DOT 5.1 is overkill, you don't need that high a boiling point.
Wouldn't hurt anything but there's no need to make a special purchase if you have DOT 3 or 4 handy.

I dont think you can mix the dot3 with the 5. I could be wrong!

DOT 5 is silicon based and can't be mixed with anything else.

DOT 5.1 is the same as DOT3/4 but with a higher boiling point.

what the heck would you need a high boiling point for on clutch hydraulics? They don't get anywhere near the heat of a brake system.

To answer your question: Yes, you can use DOT 5.1
The recommended fluid is at least DOT 3

Compatible fluids are polyethylene glycol based, and are DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1
You cannot use DOT 5, as it is silicone-based, unless you flush the system and use only DOT 5.

The advantage of a higher DOT rating is a higher boiling point - this is important on brakes, and almost a non issue on our clutch design.
So if you've got 5.1 laying around, sure, you can use it if it saves you a trip to the store, the clutch doesn't take much fluid at all.

Otherwise, just buy some cheap-o fluid that is at least DOT 3, and flush the system once every two years.

use the recommended fluid, the clutch doesn't get that hot that it needs racing fluid.
