Clutch choices for semi-normal driving?

I have a very slightly modded 88 GXL. I need a clutch that is good for most normal everyday driving but strong enough for some occasional heavy driving.
Mazdatriz, Rotary Performance or Racing Beat? Thanks.
My search did not yield this type of request.

I recently put a ACT Heavy Duty Pressure plate with Street Clutch. The pedal pressure increase is noticable(i think it's 35% increase in pressure) but not too heavy, it seem to grab lot quicker(starts to grab as soon as I let go of the clutch) but it's sprung so its not instant like unsprung 6 puck or similar type of clutch. I would definitly recommend it for a daily driver and occasional sprited driving. I bought mine from rx7store.net, I did some research of price and they were the best, comes with Pressure plate, clutch, release bearing, pilot bearing, clutch alignment tool. They don't give you the pilot bearing seal so you might want to buy it before ordering from them. Are you trying to install it yourself? If you are go a head and replace the front and rear seals in the transmission, it was really worn on my RX-7(87 GXL), the seals are cheap and easy to install(make sure you have a chisel to remove the old ones and a rubber mallet to install the new ones)

alot of options...

Is the ACT too much? I saw one site that said not recommended for street driving. It seems like a good price since they inlcude bearings and such. Mazdatrix(244), Centerforce(272) Racing Beat(242) RX7.com(237)
I think all are comperable except RX7.com is only slighty heavier than stock. Help!!!

Any sprung street/stock clutch shouldn't be too much for the road, if you go with unsprung 4puck or 6puck it might be too much(I haven't droven any unsprung clutch) but I don't think my setup was too much for me, still give you some room to engage, and I like the increase in pedal pressure I've heard of people with unsprung clutch that its either on or off this might be too much in a traffic but I also heard that it's not bad once you get used to it. I would go with ACT, I've heard some bad things about Centerforce so I wouldn't recommend it.

I like the feel of an FD disc and an ACT street/strip pp. It's a nice combo that can hold down more torque than you'll ever make ;) and feels nice, and will both last and not tear up your flywheel. Oh, and it's cheaper, too. :)

I like clutchmasters, they have very nice clutches. ACT is also a wise choice. I wouldn't get Centerforce, their clutches suck some ass and more. They really dont hold up well with the more mods you do. Unrelated but a guy i knew had a Centerforce Dual Friction stage 2 and blew it up with two runs of a 75 shot of nitrous...
As for your mods your listing i wouldnt go anything over a stage 2. I am personally running a Clutchmasters stage 2 PP with an ACT stage3?? race disc it has polyurethane mounts for springs and is very harsh. I wouldnt recommend it but its fun :D

I have a Centerforce I clutch, and let me tell you, the grabs are very strong. My 3-4 shift with the gas floored during the shift used to just rev up a little and there would not be much extra launching done. Now, with this clutch, it feels like my car is just launching into 4th.

Thanks, but

I think that is a little more clutch than I need. I was hoping to spend less than $250 bucks!

Like I said, use a stock Mazda FD disc. That'll hold you over well enough until you can get an ACT pressure plate. Use stock-replacement bearings.

Much cheaper, and works really really well.

won't the ACT pressure plates destroy the factory disks around 40% faster?

With the FD disk fit a N/A? I know there is a dimensional difference between the FC N/A and FC turbo. I would doubt the FD disk would fit a N/A.

Color me dumb :p: I'm thinking of TIIs. Heh - why not just upgrade to the TII drivetrain? :D

A different combo is to use a stock pressure plate and get atleast a stage 2 or 3 disc that would only be 130 bucks shipped (ACT) dunno about the other comps. The engagement is really smooth and you get the traction you need.

Goto Clutchmart and get a regular clutch. They will hold up fine (Dakin)..........

You need to compromise. If you want a performance clutch, you will need to spend alittle more. I went through the same motion years ago. I kept blowing clutches every 4-6months. Used stock disks combo w/ upgraded pressure plates, Ferodo upgrades, copper, kevlar, etc.......

If you have the $$ Get a kevlar disk, choose the pressure plate of your (left foot) liking. You can abuse the SHIT out of these disk and the keep coming back for more.....

GOOD LUCK

Has anyone heard of Bully Clutches? A rotary enthusiast recommended this to me.
