clutch acting funny.

I've changed out my fair share of clutch slave cylinders in my life including one on a old rx7, 86 200sx, 89 626, 89 celica gt and what happened tonight seems like the same thing that was happening to them. I was at a stop light with my foot on the clutch and the car in first gear and when I went to through it in second after the light turned green the clutch was really close to the ground and after about 3 or 4 seconds went up to the right posission and I was able to shift again. I'm thinking this is my clutch slave cylinder but the only thing is is that it doesn't leak at all! Does it have to leak for there to be a problem or could this just happen with no leaks at all. Thanks.

bizump

bleed it and make sure you clear all the air out of the line, plus make sure the reservoir is filled....

hondahater 12-29-04 09:43 PM

I know the resevoir is filled but I'll bleed it again along with the brakes and see how it goes. THanks again.

ps. this has been getting steadily worse and worse. Also something else that happens is that when I take my car up to like 5.5k rpm and really get on it it seems like not all the time but some times when I get up that high in rpm all the sudden the car will rev really quickly and loose power. Feels like I'm accidentaly stepping on the clutch while holding down the gas but that is not happening. Thanks

Your clutch is just about done for. That could be the only possible cause of the clutch slipping.

z4csl428 12-29-04 09:57 PM

thats a slipping clutch...

RXciting 12-29-04 10:51 PM

sounds like somethings wrong with your pressure plate.

hondahater 12-29-04 11:11 PM

ok so this brings me to another point if everyone thinks it's the clutch what do I need to get this fixed besides a new clutch. Do I need a new preasure plate??? Thanks.

is this an ok clutch

actually now I'm thinking about getting one from racing beat. the "1987-95 RX-7 Turbo
Sport/Strip Heavy Duty (HD) Clutch Disc" Do I need new pressure plate or can I just have mine resurfaced?? If I can do that will any place do that or do I have to send it off. Also I was wondering could the clutch slave cylinder have anything to do with this or by my discription is it most likely my clutch??? Thanks.

RotaryEvolution 12-30-04 12:18 AM

actually sounds like a clutch master, bushing wear and tend to grab like you described keeping the pedal near the floor. sometimes a sticky pedal can be a random thing or it can be a seldom thing and become a common occurrence, just because it isn't leaking doesn't mean it isn't bad. it could also be the pressure plate at fault but your description left me thinking what i initially described.

hondahater 12-30-04 07:40 AM

I can tell everything as far as the clutch is going to be changed, lol. But I'll start at the clutch slave and master cylinder first and if that doesn't fix the problem I'll move to the actual clutch and pressure plate.

hondahater 12-30-04 10:59 AM

anyone else with any ideas on what it could be?? I'm getting a bunch of differant answers and if I could get more of one answer I'll lean toward that direction. Thanks.

just checked again and sure enough the clutch slave cylinder has sprung a leak. I guess I'm off to buy a clutch slave cylinder and a ss clutch line.

www.nopionline.com is best if you can wait for parts
for the slave

and for the line
racingbeat or mazdatrix will have one

hondahater 12-30-04 04:52 PM

are all slave cylinders for fc's the same???? I found one on ebay for like 13 bucks but the guy says it's not for turbo fc's. Here is the link

nevermind I went to nopionline.com like you said and sure enough there are two differant ones. Thanks man.

the bolt tabs are different so it won't work right.

I'm having a similar problem which just happened today.
My master, slave and line are all a couple months old.

It seems like the masters like to fail a lot.

hondahater 12-30-04 05:45 PM

crap I should probably change them both out at once.

jm93rx7 12-31-04 11:25 PM

i had the same problem this week with the whole clutch pedal not coming up and loosing pressure this week. I changed my clutch master cylinder thinking that was the problem and after hours of bleeding it and still having the same problem. I went and bought a slave cylinder, even though it had no leaks that you could see. PROBLEM SOLVED!
