Clunk noise
 

I get this clunk noise when comming to a stop. It doesnt have to do with brakes becasue it keeps clunking if im going backwards and have the wheel turned to the right. Its comming from somewhere up front in the wheel area. When I shake my front wheels it kinda does it too.. but do wheel bearings make that kind of noise?

BTW. I have all poly urethan bushings.

Maybe something with the steering rack since i have PS blocked off?

Does it come from both sides? is something loose like a control arm or something?

O BTW it might be a bearing, my escort did something like that when I would accelerate hard. The bearings had shifted and were like this ------- instead of this ||||||||

When you "blocked off" the PS did you remove the pump? And if so, the pump lines?

I removed the pump and lines... and put plugs into the rack holes were the lines went.

At first I had my wheel bearings loose up front, then after checking them one day I found they were loose so I tightend them up. They are fine now, but that noise might be comming from the bearings. But I dont get it when acclerating hard. Mostly when comming to a stop or turning sometimes, and when shaking the wheel.

I don't get this sound when shaking the wheel, but I have noticed that I am getting this too intermittantly during Braking and turning. It's on my list of things to be checked out when I get a chance, but I haven't found an obvious source yet.

Im not sure if this could be related, but when you plugged up the rack holes did you make SURE to drain the power steering fluid out of there first? (by turning the wheels back and forth a few times with the lines off)

If you didnt and just plugged up the holes, now the fluid in there has nowhere to go (and since the power steering pump removes fluid some of the time) and you would have blown a seal in your steering rack. Just checking to see if this could be part of it

I'd take it to an alignment shop and ask them what's wrong & how much to fix it.
You can always drive it home & think about DIY.

Ehh yea I did everything the write up said to do. Turned the wheel back and forth couple of times.

Well im going to autox on sunday, so I dunno if they will complain about it if they somehow notice it.

I have somethign very similar.

Pretty much it makes a clack/clunk when the body weight shifts during braking and when I turn the wheel to an extreme degree.

I still don't know what it is. I'm am guessing a bushing.

LOL, I always thought it was the brake pad assemblies moving inside the caliper "fingers" during light & moderate braking, but I haven't nailed it down either...

Upper strut mount bearings?

Hydraulic selector valve in the power steering rack?

Sway bar "creaking" in it's bushings?

I think somethign with the bushings because when my car was down I had the whole suspension apart and replaced all the bushings... and for some reason when I had the front jacked up at first and then let it down.. the front kind of stayed up high, then after driving it it went down, then when I jack it back up it and let it down it sticks up a little. So I think the bushings are a little tight.

except when I installed my RB rear sway bar. It sat a little higher than before. Do the bushings need to get broken in or something?

Yes I have the same clunk and after some research I found out that it is apparently one of the suspension bushings gone bad. Haven't fixed it though, hasn't hurt the car any.
