Clock goes out but doesn't lose time

somedays my clock works, somedays it's not there, i've checked some of the wiring, most of it as very clean under my dash, almost seems replaced. but the problem is the clock at the moment, it just seems like maybe the back light goes out or something for a day or 2 at a time, and when it comes back the time is still correct. i think my cpu is bad cause my brake lights and my horn aren't working could this be part of it also?i gotta get back to work i'm on a double shift today at the restaurant.

Bad solder joints. Since they are 20 years old all you need to do is pull the cluster and re-solder the joints. If you have the time, wick all the old solder out and replace it.
Search it and there are plenty of threads about this subject. If Icemark answers I'm sure he will have a more technical answer!

resolder your CPU and your idiot cluster connections internally, both of those fail commonly and cause erratic problems like this.

Maybe you might want to explain CPU to him since he is relativaly new. How and where it's located. How to do it! No disrespect intended. But something like this is nothing for you. But rookies?

well i read up on it abit, i understand what it does, but ya where is it? and would someone have a picture or 2 of examples, i don't have much soldering skills either, i do have some friends that could probably do it for me but ya i need some sort of directions or example to follow from

FIXED!! someone at one point had switched the 2 clips that go on the brake pedal button, i looked at them checked the wiring diagram on the FSM, swapped them and now they work fine

resoldering the idiot cluster is pretty easy, just remove it and take the 3 screws out of the backside and unfrold it, you need to resolder the pins that go from the connector through the rear board.

if you want you can just stop by my shop some day and i can do it if you buy me lunch. :)

oops sorry i got my threads crossed, but there similar anyway. i meant to put the FIXED on my brakelight problem i was having, my clock problem is still going on though. today it didn't work except this morning when i first went to work

i figured that, there is no correlation between the clock and the brake light switch. :)
