Clicking noise

Today at school i heard a clicking noise coming from the passenger side rear tire. The clicking increases with speed and is not affected when braking. Any ideas what it could be? (car is a 1990 S5 convertible)

Sounds like a nail or a rock stuck in the tire tread.

I checked the tires and couldnt find anything.

Hmm. I thought you had posed an easy question, and would have bet a little money on that one.

Maybe a wiser forum member may have a better idea. If not, you could jack up the car, rotate the wheel, and see if it clicks, and if you can detect from where. Then you could switch your tires, and see if the clicking switches to the new location (notice how I can't quite let go of my original suggestion?)

Edit:
Other possible causes are something is loose, and being hit by the rotating axle assembly; or, failing wheel bearing or CV joint).

Unfortunately the clicking hasnt gone away. Think it has something to do with the CV or bearing. I really dont have time to do this myself, anyone reccomend any shops to take the car to?

Quick test...
Flip the tires right to left.
Does the sound change sides after you rotated the rear tires?
If it does, it's the tires.
If it doesn't, check the axles (i.e. CV joints).
