Classic car?

I know that in VA once a car hits 25 Years its can be considered a classic and you dont have to worry about emissions! :smiley309

Since my FC was manufactured on 10/85 does anyone know if i can get my plates at the beginning of 2010 or on 10/10

Malikai229 03-09-09 02:20 PM

I know in California its 30 years...but who knows!

I recall hearing that the law with cars in Cali was revoked and only cars pre 77 (I think) dont require emissions. Then again it's just what I heard so I pray the law is still in effect =D.

Malikai229 03-09-09 02:57 PM

Thats 30+ years old :icon_tup:

hopefully that law is still the same, im just counting the days til us californians can rip off the emission b/s off our FC's ^_^

13bturbofc 03-09-09 03:02 PM

here in PA if you drive less then 5k miles in a year you can get an emissions exempt sticker which means you don't need any emissions equipment on the car..that's what i have..and i drive much more then 5k in a year but that's why you keep an extra gauge cluster around, drive on that cluster for 1-4k miles then swap it to the extra one, then come inspection time you swap back in the original one and your golden..

Wouldn't be spreading that kind of stuff around. There have been occasions where cops are roaming the forums.

FelixIsGod29X 03-09-09 06:46 PM

we have similiar laws, its not 30 years old, its pre 1977. Meaning unless they re-write the law a 1978 and newer car will never get the same exemption as a 1977.

another law they do have for us is that older cars can pass inspection without emissions equipment so long as it can pass. They write that law with the belief that older car's emissions equipment may no longer be availible, they raise the limits on the older vehicles and so long as you pass the sniffer your good to go.

So what if you total your car out and the insurance adjuster shows up to see the damage and says, "Hmm. Your mileage is off quite a bit. Want to explain that, Son?" I sure wouldn't want to be that guy...

Rob XX 7 03-09-09 07:02 PM

sounds like BS anyhow, who goes to the trouble of swapping clusters, if your point is to keep the mileage down why not just take the cable off

Black Knight RX7 FC3S 03-09-09 07:12 PM

then the speedo wont work, unless you get an electronic one or get the cable to another speedo unit.

I have people that will pass me, but is emissions the only thing a classic plate does?

Rob XX 7 03-09-09 07:37 PM

really? the speedo wont work then? your kidding?

lol, but anyhow- once you know basic speeds you can go off the tach, usually you only need 30 mph and 55mph, or if you have a GPS you can use the speed off that. I use the GPS for speed in my V8 car because the T56 tach signal is electronic.

Agreed.

JxT 03-09-09 09:06 PM

Damn those libs! Why must we keep getting screwed for living in Cali? =[

13bturbofc 03-09-09 10:41 PM

lol @ cops on the forum comment...yea i would just disconnect my cable but then i wouldn't have the speedometer..and hyperteck, i will never sell my car so don't worry about that...lol and it doesnt really matter anyway because how many TII's are there out there with the original engine? odometer reading on these cars don't mean shit when you try to sell it if it doesn't have the original motor in it...OMG its a felony!!! i don't know officer my gauge clusters keep going out on me and im forced to swap in used ones from the junk yard, i think i have a short in my wiring..damn mazda's

Big88chevy 03-09-09 10:42 PM

13bturboFc, we have the same kinda law in NJ and it is the Shit. Only thing tho, i would just disconnect the cable if i wanted to hide mileage.

awddrift4 03-10-09 01:10 AM

30 years in kansas, my friends delta 88 just got considered a classic.. awesome car with the 403 small block. rare for that car, and has 185 hp and 320ft-lb of torque lol
i gotta wait another 11 years til my 90 is 30 years old

RotaryJun 03-10-09 05:10 AM

^That's cool. In Oregon, a car is considered "antique" if it was manufactured in 1954 or earlier. 30+ years old sounds pretty good to me.

13bturbofc 03-10-09 06:53 AM

here in pa you can get classic tags when the car turns 20 years old. i was thinking about getting them for my TII with gp sports body kit lol that would be so funny
