CHRA cleaning
Anyone have any suggestions on cleaning a CHRA? I have a bit of caked up carbon under the turbine heat shield. I know that this is cast iron however the internals are soft metals. Don't believe doing a chem dip would be the smartest move. Any suggestions?

Im guessing your rebuilding your ..... because if not its hard to clean or not pointless because carbon build-up can be normal depending on car/tune richness but when I rebuild turbos I tear them all the way down and soak the reusable parts in mineral spirits
Externally. ... wire wheel and/ mineral spirits |
i put silicone plugs in all the orifices then bead blast it and thoroughly degrease it afterwards.
it's all cast iron and a couple steel dowels. you really won't hurt much even with an acid dip. a wire wheel on a grinder will usually remove that carbon though if that's all you're concerned with, just be careful not to dig into the shaft seal pilot hole. |
