Checking for ECU codes.
 

I was checking the codes from my ECU tonight and it was 3 short flahses (water temp sensor) What is there are more then 1 code... How will the LED's display the next code? It says on the webpage 3 short flashed....long pause....repeat...if it repeats how will i know if there is anything else wrong...Just fix the temp sensor and then see if there are more codes?

If changing the water temp sensor should i change the thermostat as well?

Yep. It seems the codes are displayed one at a time in numerical order. You have to fix each problem to get the next code. Why do you think you have more than one code?

well.. I'm driving along and i let off the gas and it will stutter instead of a nice low exhaust note.....pbhbhbbpbpb POP and it never used to backfire. So i think the next thing wrong will be the o2 sensor.
And maybe something else as well. Thanks alot NZ. Hard times like this i'm glad to have a guru around to help

It should display all of the codes at once. At least mine does............

i have an s4....i need to use led lights and plug then into the ecu output

s5 just blinks on the check engine light

ON my series four, I pulled the air intake temp sensor off. Got a code. Then pulled the boost/pressure sensor off. It then showed that code, boost/pressure sensor, only. Then I put the boost/pressure sensor back on. Tben it only showed the air intake temp sensor bad. Perhaps it shows the latest failure and works its way back as you fix things.

just call around to local shops and find one that has an aftermarket PCM scanner with the appropriate chip to use with it. 2nd gen '7s don't give much info through a scanner, but you will be able to get all the trouble codes out at once. i scanned my '86 with a snap-on scanner and it worked like a charm. no codes, as it was for my class, but its fast and easy as hell. most shops will help you out and hook up the scanner for free....mostly because they think if they find a problem you'll have them fix it for ya.

haha.. I guess i will just fix one thing at a time. And Hailers i think your right about the way the ECU puts the codes in.

I've got to change my fuel filter, spark plug wires, o2 sensor, water temp sensor.

Could anyone tell me where the thermostat is located? Its so damn cold outside to go look for it. And i lost my haynes manual :(

Square, blue/green in color plug, on the back of the water pump housing. Down low on the housing.
