pretty eh? i dont know how the hell you guys get that oil pan off?

Is it engine oil or gear oil? Not sure, but it looks like it could be the rear main seal.

it's oil, but im gettin a new clutch, rear main,mt90 redline, and all that good stuff soon in the next week or so, ordered it friday, and i see i get to get the rtv out and SOMEHOW get the oil pan off and do that also. i bet this explains the chattering of my clutch in slow engagements! and in reverse.

Good luck with the chattering clutch... seems to be a epidemic among the RX-7.

for sure!! im lookin into getin my flywheel resurfaced also. i figure while its all out i should do it right the first time! i think i found a guy that will do it for 20 bucks since no shop will do it close by.

Oil on the clutch could cause a chatter.

You also may want to consider replacing the throwout bearing and the pilot bearing while the engine/tranny are apart.

I saw someone take it off recently, involved a lot of work because you have to lift the engine aparently. =)

I got mine off in the middle of the winter with the engine in the car. I put a good jack under the transmission close the the flywheel check plug (that big rubber SOB) and then removed the passenger side motor mount.

The two biggest things that helpwed were those ratcheting wrenches and I also had a universal joint for my sockets. Make sure to use a new gasket and put RTV on both sides of the gasket and seal the threads and joints for the sensors on the side.

should i attempt to change gasket before clutch and tranny is out or after it's all apart? im lookin for the easiest way of doing this since i was lookin under there today and seen what a pain it was!

I'd do it with the tranny attached since you can use it to hold the engine up while the mount is out. If you have a cherry picker you can use it instead however.

thanks!! i guess this is what i get to do this weekend:) im gettin tired of watching little smoke clouds puff up from underneath the car and the smell of burnt oil! you wouldnt belive how many people tell me about it. as if i didnt know!!

Yeah, it gets pretty gross. Wait until you pull that pan and see how much sludge is in there.... ick.

shouldnt be to bad considering the car has only 46,000 miles but im sure ill be proven wrong!lol while i was under there, you wouldnt believe the shape this car is in besides that god awful exhaust!! he must of dosed it up pretty good with undercoatint. for being where i live and all the snow, its in great shape! all the bolts(well most of them) just come right off. i hope these ones do!

Holy crap, onyl 46k on the clock? That's pretty damn cool, take good care of 'er. ;)
