check engine light on and then off
 

searched for a little while and found nothing on what i want..

i drove the car around all day yesterday and today, but suddenly today after work as soon as i got home the check engine light came on. i checked the fluids, temp, and all that shit.. everything was normal. i turned the car off and back on again and the light went off.. has anyone experienced this? what could it be?

If it comes on after driving for a while and not as soon as you cut the car on its something like a sensor going out or to that affect. Possibly o2 sensor?

When the Check Engine light comes on, the warning code is stored in the ECU.
Pull he code(s) and you'll know exactly what's going on.

Its usually after about 20-30 minutes of driving

Check your grounds they might be dodgy.

Pull codes as Clokker suggested and you'll have some insight to your problem.

I know this is not my thread but i was curious on how to pull the codes from fc's?

The procedure is different for an S4 versus S5.

also i was just wondering if i should be weary of driving the car? it runs and drives perfectly fine even with the light on

i have to drive to work and its like a 35 mile round trip, should i not drive?

You don't want to check for codes. Do you?

Places like that are set up to read from OBD ports, which we don't have.

"All that crap" consists of grounding a couple of wires and then counting a flashing light.

I'm sure you can do it.

and as i suspected. the magical wires are nowhere to be found.

ding ding ding.. you're the boss hahaha.. so i dug up that damned wire. it was the o2 sensor.

You're probably okay, the majority of check engine lights are related to emissions or something close to it. Although when my check engine light was going on and off I believe it was related to the OMP giving up the ghost...eventually I went into limp mode once my OMP died for good. Clearly you don't want to drive if the OMP dies, but you'll know since driving in limp mode is a pain.
