Check engine but no codes

Hello,

'90 Vert.

The other day the check engine light came on and the car went into "limp home" mode. I got a tow home. The next day, the car started up fine.

I drove it a week later and the check engine light came on again and luckily I was close enough to get home.

I am unable to get any error codes.

I took it to a mechanic who specializes in Rotaries. He was unable to get any codes either and the car never had the problem above when he drove it.

Anyone ever seen this? Recommendations?

if it went into limp mode. it's probably the OMP that's throwing the code. I would recommand running some premix in the car if you drive it to be safe. (2 cycle oil in the gas tank) if won't fix anything. but will prevent major damage if the MOP is not working.

how are you checking the codes?

Thanks for your suggestions.

I am using that very technique described in your link. The light comes on when the key is turned on but then goes out and does no blinking whatsoever.

I have seen many mentions of premixing on this forum. Is it OK to operate the vehicle with the mixture if the OMP is working part of the time? Can an OMP work only some of the time?
