Cheapest Vmount???

Has anyone tried this out,

I expect it to be a huge fail, but on the other hand it could be a cheap start to a v-mount setup. Just want to see if someone tried...

top mount

tuscanidream 02-21-12 12:49 PM

Yeah dude... What @barkz said. That is a replacement top mount intercooler. Vmounts are in no way cheap, unless you do all the fabrication yourself.

HOZZMANRX7 02-21-12 01:22 PM

Not sure how you would mount it as a replacement top mount either.

That said, i wonder how the core dimensions compare to other aftermarket TMIC's such as ARC's?

FirstRotaryExp 02-21-12 02:57 PM

that 'kit' looks like the intercooler core is for a FD and the piping is for the stock TMIC.

Search around for photos of V-mounts here on the forum. *Pay close attention to ducting.

You can buy some decent 2mm aluminum piping somewhere on eBay. I did it years ago. (I don't remember the name of the company.) You can also buy a decent intercooler from CX Racing. The cheapest route is to build your own... As long as you do it right the first time.

That kit that you posted says "Side Mount Intercooler" under "Features". I don't see how this piping would allow you to use it as a SMIC anyway. Don't even mess with the kits on eBay. If you're going to use eBay, piece your own together.

barkz 02-21-12 08:02 PM

The core would make a Side Mount, the piping would be for the stock top mount location, mounting that core up there would be a PITA i think. dont do it. spend your money on a real v-mount or just go front mount

As said it does look like a huge fail,
but yes now that you mention it firstrotaryexp i can see it working as a standard mount fd cooler, removing the plastic post y-pipe running that longer one and then the stock pre throttlebody pipe.

I've done my research on v-mounts was mainly just intrigued by the piping of this kit and how in anyway thats possibly a bolt in application for an fc

That's the thing... It isn't. I feel that most eBay kits aren't test fitted.

If you had done research I doubt this thread would exist. You can build an inexpensive v-mount (assuming decent fabrication skill), but those parts are not the basis for it.

Yeah, I'm always skeptical of parts w/o on-vehicle pics, especially on ebay.

tuscanidream 02-22-12 05:35 AM

I don't think you understand the difference between a tmic and a vmount. Go outside and look at your oem intercooler. It is a top mount. Then look at the thread posted below.
