Cheap/quiet exhaust setup

Okay, so I have this 1989 GXL that I got for $500. I had to remove the stock cat-back because it was literally falling apart. This car is going to be my fiance's car to drive to/from work.

I thought leaving the cat-back off for a while, but she got in and even driving it lightly, it hurt her ears. She was telling me that it is too low of a sound. So, basically what I need is some kind of exhaust that will change the tone, yet not make it much more louder than what it is right now. It has all the precats and main cat on, just no cat-back. All opinions or suggestions accepted, just keep in mind I do not have very much money to spend on this right now.

dynomax

Wow... still ~$350 for that setup.

you are not really going to find one much cheeper then the dynomax that will make it quite enough

I almost think that I might be better off trying to locate a good condition, used stock cat-back. Seems like it would be a better deal than trying to find something good quality aftermarket.

how about custom? just go to your local muffler shop. ;)

Yeah, some people do not know how to read the post. I said I did not want to spend a lot of money...

Icemark is putting together a catback exhaust for the n/a that is single outlet for $250. But i believe that won't be out for a while. You can try the corksport "power series" catback for $289, but that might be a little loud.

id say go search some junkyards for a stock exhaust that isnt too beat up or goto a local muffler shop and have them do something custom. the cheapest of the two would be going to a junkyard. :beerchug:

Do a search on the for sale second gen forum. There was someone a few weeks ago that was selling a stock catback cheap, I thought about buying from him but I'm going to save up for a nice Racing Beat catback. Dig up that thread and see if he's still s elling.

AcidShock 04-18-04 11:42 PM

If either is in good condition, I would love to have one. I would be willing to pay you for the setup if reasonable. :)
