cheap and nice way to plug ugly holes in the firewall
 

had some holes that were not going to be used anymore so i looked around for some rubber plugs but no luck here in my small town but i found these nice looking chrome plugs at lowes so i decided to try them out

just find the right size and pop them in.. then on the inside of the dash fold the small teeth over the outer lip of the hole so that it holds in in place solid,

just a idea for anybody who wanted to plug up the holes and couldnt find any rubber pieces

Good find. There is also a company called AUVECO that sells automotive fasteners and hardware. You can get things like metric fasteneners, all sizes and styles of rubber plugs, the clip for the hood support rod, the little plastic snap fasteners for upholstery panels, etc.

I checked their web site just now, but they only sell to distributors. I used to get their stuff through a Dupont auto paint store. Prices were great--a box of 50 hood rod clips, or 50 rubber plugs costs about $4 - $8 (wholesale), for example--about what you'll pay for one of those items at the Mazda dealer.

I think most body repair jobbers will have their catalog, if you ever need parts of that sort.

very clean engine bay.. get urself some red duct tape found at any local hardware store and itll look super! lol. and yea butts ive seen those plugs and they look really clean.. i might hafta invest

I tried the same thing but couldn't find a good fit for all the holes

just measure the width of the hole and then at lowes it says the size on the packages... but i bought these sizes...

and im looking for a 2 1/2" for the big hole on the drivers side

oh and by the way if your looking for a size to just pop in and go then you wont find it... you have to go inside the car and fold the alligator teeth around the lip of the hole so it stays in flush and tight

Those look like KO fillers for electrical metallic boxes... find them in the electrical supply aisle of lowes?

If so... take them out and treat them to a clearcoat, or you'll be seeing rust within 6 months.

no they are not just plain metal... they are chromed... they have a protective coating on them... they should be fine, guess i could clear them for just in case, i might do that

I am certain those are KO fillers for electrical boxes.
They will rust... the coating on them is very cheap. In the weather (Wet locations), rust forms very quickly. I can snap pictures of one of them installed in a 2 1/8" octogon box under an eave on a farm in BC... would have been installed roughly 4 months ago. BC's damp air has already started to bring rust, and I am going to be changing the box to a wet location weatherproof box before winter hits.

I also do not believe they make a KO filler for a 2.5" hole. The standard sizes range from 1/2" to 2", the standard sizes of knockout kits. 2.5" EMT and up are generally intended only for service cable runs and are considered a permanent installation.



5 mins with a rattle can and a buffer now sure beats changing them and cleaning rust stains from your fresh paint 6 months from now.

yeah they do look like the plumbing ones... especially since they have teeth....
