Cheap but effective performance mods?

Im looking for cheap yet effective mods to perform to my car, being a college I dont have the income to save for a standalone or full coilover set. What are some good mods to perform that are $200 and under?

if everything on your sig is on the car I think you past the point where $200 will make much difference.......

or start your "next project", thats an under 200 dollar mod

Xbladr 02-08-06 11:08 PM

possibly some eibach springs or some suspension mods ie strut bars if you are going to do auto x

Jager 02-08-06 11:17 PM

Strut bars, tb mod, tb porting, stuff like that?

A good tune!!! Your car isn't going to feel any faster from mods if you can't get on the throttle because of a poor tune.

Please get your car tuned lol

Ghetto cold air intake piping

1. Piping cost ~$15-$30
2. Remove washer bottle
3. Enlarge hole

A CAT pipe works wonders aswell, I got mine for free from a mate who's a steel fabricator, but all you really need is 2x3inch flanges and a measeurement of the original CAT, take to someone capable and they should be able to knock it up for you relatively cheap.

Also, not sure about the emissions laws in your state (here in Australia we don't really have to worry about that) But if you haven't already remove the air pump and solenpoid rack.

Also didn't see it in your sig but fuel pressure regulator maybe..

playdeadva 02-13-06 11:13 PM

first thing i did was 60k tune up coz i got it at 67 and it was pretty gross. not to expensive but it works. also went through a can of rubbing compound. next step is springs and strut bars and gas and gas.

pilx i was wondering if you ever had a problem sucking water through that pipe?

fc3sdrifter121 02-13-06 11:24 PM

sell your safc, and upgrade to a safc2 and get a good tune!

n/a-luvr 02-13-06 11:27 PM

Well, if you haven't I'd start by REMOVING dead weight - sound deadening material, spare donut, power steering system and perform the internal seal mod to your rack, removing inner fenders, hood pin the hood and remove the latch assembly. Don't forget about the throttle body mod.

Mebbe use that cash to buy some used / cheap racing seats and ditch the factory heavyweights? Just some starting points. ~rich

It's not sealed to the intake, so it's under no vacuum, any water that travels into it would probably not even travel up the pipe (unless air velocity from the speed of the vehicle pushes it up), in which case, it'll just kind of puddle underneath the filter itself.

Nope, the explanation above seems like a valid reason why aswell ;)

If I had another $200, I'd get the cheap/stiff coilovers on e-bay.

I already have that planned for this summer hopefully. I need a new "toy" of sorts to hold me over till then.

Your mods are similar to mine.

Yesterday I swapped in a 929 AFM.
I picked it up on e-bay for $31.
It gives more flow w/less restriction.
I had to dial back the all S-AFC settings by 40%.
