Hey all,

What controls the speedometer, odometer and trip dials? Right now my speedo displays 0 and both odometer and trip dials are frozen at where they were last working. For the trip dials, i usually reset it after each fill up to see how many miles i've gone on a tank of gas.

My question is, which chapter of the manual will tell me this? I'm only asking this because I'm at work and can't spend too much time downloading the entire manual (i got internet nazi's here at work). If anyone could direct me to which specific file(read: chapter) and which page, that would be really great.

I'm thinking it was this weekend when it stopped. A buddy of mine helped me change my fuel filter this past saturday and he was pulling pretty hard to get the filter and bracket out of the car. I'm guessing he probably pulled in a wrong direction and pulled on a wire or a sensor or something while getting the filter out.

It's all mechanical - there's a speedometer cable running from the tranny to the back of the instrument cluster. It's likely disconnected from the tranny or popped off the back of the instrument cluster.

correct me if i'm wrong but the .. (i'm at a loss for words) .. thing.. sorry .. that holds the cable to the back of the cluster is sort-of .. spring clamp-ish right? just pull the gauges forward and pop it back in. i'm hoping that the a "safety" feature in mind when they designed that spring-holder thing so when a mechanic accidentally pulled too hard on the cable it would just give way and pop out. it would really suck if i found out that there's still a piece of speedo cable still stuck at the cluster.

It's highly unlikely that the cable would break off in the back of the instrument cluster. Anything's possible though. Just do what I did - install all brand new Autometer gauges, use a $65 Lokar cable, and have your headers melt the cable after the first 8 miles so you have no clue how fast you're actually going :D

that's what i'm doing now =). i only drive 2 speeds anyway .. for some reason i have a sense of 40mph. i don't have to listen the engine or look at the gauges .. i seem to know how fast is 40. from a technical point, 3rd gear at 3k is 40. 5th gear at 3k is 70 .. so if anyone asks .. "no officer i DON'T know how fast i was going because my gauge doesn't work".
