changing Shifter Brushings
 

Hi everyone,

i notice my shifter is slow to bounce back to center position from the 1st and 2nd gear position, and is fine bouncing back from 5th gear position. Well i read, and it may be my shifter brushings. when should i change my brushings?

Probably not shifter bushings, but rather a busted shifter return spring.

Very hard to replace, and requires dropping the tranny.

When the shifter bushings are gone, it feels like the shifter could lift up or down, and does not feel like it is lining up real well with the gates of the tranny. Typically there is more noise (vibrations) as well.

when it is the shifter return spring, the shifter does not return to the 3/4 neutral spot by itself.

mazdatrix and mazdaracing short shift kits come with thes bushing but not the rubber boots? correct?

i was looking at mazdatrix
the brushings are like 18 dollars for both top and bottom

the boots are 40 dollars or so. well my car already have the short shifter installed.... so i think i just need the brushings IF i need them

unbolt the shifter and see. Its not like it would take anymore than 15 minutes to see ifthe bushings are okay.

My shifter had no bushings. This caused way to much play so i only have the lower bushing but i noticed a huge differance.
