changing my shifter boot help
 

ok here is the deel i got a new shifter bushing and when i went to replace it the rubber boot was shot to hell and decomposing yes i said decomposing. how hard is it to change it and would some one go threw the steps for me please. it is just so oily that i dont even know where to start. thank you for your help to come:)

without knowing the exact specifics, you unscrew the shift knob, lift up on the shfter plastic, remove the shifter surround. Flip it upside down.

To replace the interior shifter boot, then will unscrew the 4 retaining screws, and depending on year you may also have to remove the 9 retaining clips. Remove the boot support. Remove the boot.

Install then new boot and re-attach everything.

Of course if you are replacing the rubber boots, they just slide in and off pretty easy. If yours is sticking or not wanting to slide down in place, then use a little liqued dish soap as a lubricant, and they will slide just fine.

i need to change my shifter bushing as well on my 88 turbo II, when I took out the shifter while changing my clutch I didn't see any bushing? maybe I didn't look under the little flange on the stick(the one with three holes in it). anyways, what is the boot for? I thought it was to keep out leaking exhaust fumes and heat from the transmission? shifter bushing "kit": The kit comes with one shifter housing gasket, one shifter bushing, and one spring-type shifter bushing part. Together these make the kit. Is that all I need? I also didn't see any spring? but my shifter is really loose.

If you're talking about the rubber boots, they are also easy to replace. Just buy them from Mazdatrix, Mazdaformance, or the dealer, or wherever your favorite place is to buy stock parts. The rubber boots come in two sets - the lower boot that bolts to the chassis and the middle boot set that consists of two circular boots. Take off the old boots, unbolt the old lower boot if that needs replacing and bolt the new one on. Then wrap the middle boot set around the lower boot. If you can replace shifter bushings, this is no problem.
