Changed My Mind. 300-350rwhp.
OK, I know a while back I started a thread on how I wanted 450-500rwhp and had decided to go with the T-66 ball bearing setup. Well, Ive decided that If I wanted to PURELY drag, I would hav gotten a Mustang. I want to exploit what this car does best and what I do/enjoy best. The curves. Road racing, autocross, anywhere that Im not just going straight. I figured 500rwhp was overkill on that type of car. I already participate in a couple of solo II races but I want a bit more power. What would be a good turbo to produce 300-350rwhp without sacrificing the crucial spool up time for solo/road? Thanks for yoru help again guys.

Hybrid Turbo, 4x720cc injectors, S-AFC , EBC, and some tuning.

BNR Stage II can get you there...some people have gotten up to around 330 on that turbo using the stock TMIC. BTW...go ahead and drive an RX7 with 300 hp...I guarantee you it scares the hell out of you the first time. 450-500 is rediculous, and bordering on retarded ;)

we talking rwhp here? I didn't know the bnr hybrid was capable of that. Its possible on the stock TMIC, but isnt it easier/better with a fmic, maybe even if its a custom one?

FMIC will always be better, even with a stock turbo. 300RWHP is no problem with a properly sized hybrid. ( Im not a big fan of the 60-1 Hybrids). I liked the hybrid I had before I sold it. T04B Hybrid, V-trim wheel on a S5 exhaust housing. If I were you Id go standalone and get a nice streetport while you are at it.

Yea, the FC is a pretty serious car at 300 rwhp...hell, even most of the 250 rwhp cars are fast street cars since they aren't very heavy and are geared well. Big power numbers aren't everything...the Supra, 300ZXTT, 3KGT and even the Eclipse are porkers compared to our cars
Every FC coupe had an under 3000 lbs curb weight I believe. My Galant VR4 is a pretty fast car with about 330 to the wheels (achem, all wheels hehe). That same power in the RX-7 would be a huge difference. |

The TMIC is in a very very bad place which allows heat soak very quickly, especially at a dead stop when the car has no airflow going through it. IMHO, it's a decent piece for the stock car but should be upgraded when significant power upgrades are in the works. Many people don't touch the IC for 2 reasons:
1) A FMIC kit is expensive (though the GReddy's @ rx7store.net are very reasonably priced). 2) Un-skilled people will not want to go through the hassle of making their own. |
Yes my post was referring to RWHP, and as others stated, a FMIC is always better...but it can be done with the TMIC.

what about spool up time? What turbo is recommended for that power with quick spool up time?

If you're road racing, spool up time isn't really an issue. You should always be at a higher RPM, so the turbo should remain spooled.

I guess you have a point, ok specifically then, the hybrid bnr stage 2 should get me to 300-350rwhp? Are there any other recommended hybrids except the BNR, i would just like to know my options and whats out there.

The stage IV has a larger turbine wheel which is better matched to the 60-1.
