CF Hood and stock rubber bumpstops
 

Got a ViS cf Tii hood. Seems to fit ok except that the front passenger side near the headlight is held up higher than it should be by the stock rubber bumpstop.

Are there adjustable replacement bumpstops or do most folks just cut em down to fit?

Oh, while I'm thinking about it, the ViS came very nicely packaged and they had wood planks attached by bolts at the normal hood mounting points. When using the ViS do you use the stock bolts or the longer ones they shipped with?

Post pics when you can if possible. Going to install pins? If you don't lemme know how well it holds up, personally I don't want pins. I'm thinking of getting one myself if I can go without pins. I assume it's going on the black vert in your display pic, nice! My t2 is black as well, so would be cool to see some pics.

i can't remember exactly how our bump stops are but i know some you can turn clockwise and they will got down futher. or counterclockwise for them to come out. seeing as how i don't have an fc anymore i can't remember.

Interesting. Mine are attached with a plastic plug with little plastic fingers that spread when the factory worker pushed it into the hole. Much like all the other cheap (assembly labor-wise) plastic fasteners. So it cannot be adjusted.

I'll use the clay method to see how tall it needs to be and then cut it off from the bottom then put a screw in from the bottom to reattach it. That way it wont look hacked up. I need to pull the filter assembly anyway to test and potentially rewire the fuel pump relay.

Oh, and those pictures are with the ViS hood. It's a very subtle look. So subtle that at first you think the paint is bad. :Wconfused. I'm not sure it does much for me but my 18 year old whose car it is loves it.

The ViS fits pretty well and I was surprised they duplicated the frame underneath. There are a couple of dimples that you can see from the right angles. The weave pattern kinda acts as camouflage so they aren't a big deal. If you paint it, there will be body work required but nothing major, just some putty and block sanding. You'll need the TMIC rubber gasket if you're still running the TMIC.

I researched it for a long time and found that illstreet.com had the best overall price with shipping. Nice guys too. Note that the hoods are drop shipped from ViS itself so if you decide to get one have your vendor call ViS and make sure they are in stock as the inventory system is a little laggy. Mine was supposed to be in stock but ViS didnt actually have any and it took I think 3 months for it to get made and shipped to me.

I have pins but havent installed them yet. I got the AreoCatch ones. They use an FC in their instruction illustrations so that seemed a no-brainer. We've been driving it without at highway speeds and it hasnt popped off but at $600 (plus liability for any damage done by the flying hood to other cars) it makes me nervous so this weekend when it's warmed up we'll put em in.

We also had to go to Lowes (HD had nothing as usual) and get a lighter spring for the latch. It was a little long so we had to do some cutting and bending, but it works. We also ground out the latch mounting holes to give us a little more vertical adjustability.

And we still have to build new window washer plumbing. The holes are predrilled though so I think with a bit of drip irrigation hose and fittings it'll be an easy job.

how are the gaps between the hood and fenders? i have considered buying a CF hood but i have seen some really crappy fitments with most aftermarket body parts, so i am a lil leery. do you have close up pics of the gaps?

On the GXL had no fitment issues. The TII needed a little adjustment.

Except for the bump stop torquing up the front passenger corner I think the fitment is surprisingly good. It appears they make a mold from a factory one.

Those aerocatch pins rule. I just had a set installed on my cf hood and it is amazing. my hood didn't work with the stock latch period, just wasn't enough of the striker to catch. Once i got the pins in tho it was awesome. you feel like some kind of badass when you flip them open to access the engine bay.

I love my Aerocatch hood pins. Even if your stock latch won't fully latch due to the spring being too strong if you have 2 Aerocatch pins in the hood its not going anywhere.

I need to replace my latch spring with a softer one. :lol:

I do cpr on my hood and it latches.

my cf hood is a two layer piece so when you press from the top it just flexes down because the material below is so far down. you just can't get any force on the stock latch

Love your thread. I think your next project might be War & Peace! Around page 13 there are picts of the body work and there are holes for the Aerocatchs. I never could find a pic showing where you mounted the pins. Any pointers?

What do folks put on the bottom of the hood for the heat shielding? 20 year old stuff from an OEM hood is looking a little ratty by now!

in the radiator support bracket. use a tape ball on the top of the pins to mark when you are going to drill.

Had my hood for about 5-6yrs now, never put anything on it to help with heat protection.

Here are where the pins are mounted. Thats the only pic I can find at the moment. I'll get closer pics this weekend if you need em.

I had an aluminum plate made to go over the radiator area to help channel air through there. As for the hood, I didn't do anything with my CF hood, I just put it on and it fit perfectly. *shrugs*.

I like those lights. ive been thinkin about modding them. do you have a write up on your lights? just lookin for some ideas

LoL, yeah I know I know. I had removed the prop rod from the car before paint. I gave the body shop a set of hood struts I had obtained through a forum and they tried to install those. Due to the design of the way the strut kit mounted my body guy had to trim a bit off my fenders only to find out the struts wouldn't work and he hacked up the fenders for no reason and had to fix them, not a good day. I took the prop rod off my parts car temporarily until I can figure out what to do for the hood struts. I think I may just have to go the ebay cheepy route. Which has apparently worked out for some folks.
