Causes of too much fuel?
 

Im looking to buy another rx7 ...a 1989 N/a ...was told the injectors were leaky and thats about it. ok no problem...However I talked to the guy today and he was telling me

the car will start up and then after awhile will flood and die from the injectors putting out too much fuel? ....havent been able to go and start it up or look under the hood or anything but I was just trying to think of possible causes other than injectors.... maybe fuel pressure regulator and...?? any other ideas

Most likely cause is the 13b under the hood. :-P

Rotaries run pig rich... typically... like... from the factory.

hrmmm well i didnt think its normal for them to die after starting....my vert doesnt do that.... O.o

I guess it could be the ECU. Is it running on stock injectors?

Very unlikely. If the injectors were leaking that badly it wouldn't start in the first place. Sounds more like a large vac leak.

Its probeerbly owned by someone who thought bigger injectors would mean more power...... i bet he has huge injectors in it

i was thinking that too ...that maybe some crazy big injectors were in there but then i thought would it just start dumping all the extra fuel just because the injectors are bigger?? more things need to be done in order for that to happen right??

There is absolutely no reason to think that. Don't make wild, unlikely guesses.

It's most likely because the engine is out of tune. What is out of tune? OUt of tune is a engine that needs it's timing set with a TIMING LIGHT, then the TPS set and then the idle set with the BAC either at a set duty cycle (initial set coupler installed) or the BAC plug pulled off and the idle set using the BAC bypass screw and or variable resistor depending on year of car.

Also someone might have done the throddle budy mud and screwed up the system all to hell and back.

Or he removed or never set the thermowax to hold a idle when the engine is not fully warmed up.

Or he has his vacuum lines on backwards or off or cracked or??????

I mean, really, how on god's green earth can one tell not being there and seeing the car? or hearing the car?
