Causes of Limp Mode

Is there a list somewhere of the causes of limp mode? My car has been hitting it at about 40 mph and then just falls on its face. When it goes into limp the check light will come on, but the car does not spit out any error codes at all when checked. I know the function works because it will spit codes if i disconnect things etc.

Just in case it's the OMP I've thrown some premix in to keep the engine healthy in the mean time. The limp mode also resets when the car is restarted and it runs fine until the car is pushed somewhat. It won't error out in first gear though, I can run first to redline but shortly after shift to second it will error out.

A listing of the limp mode causes would be appreciated, as would any other ideas about what could be causing this.

the only thing that causes limp mode is the OMP

in limp mode the car will barly run at all.

interesting. what kind of failure does the omp experience? should i get ahold of a mutlimeter and test the resistances in it that the manual lists?

Someone told me an afm code could drop it in limp mode, but I don't know if that's the case or not. I swapped the afm with one I knew was good and it didn't make a difference though.

It Looks Like I Too Have The 'limp Mode' Symptoms. On Starting, The Engine Rev's Like It Has Plenty Of Power And Idles Smoothly. No Smoke Or Steam From Exhaust. I Hold Brake And Put A Load On Engine And The Engine Light Comes On And I Imediately Looses Power. Turn Off Key, And Then On To Ignition, Engine Light Resets. Now I Try To Recieve A Code (jumping From Battery Grd To Blue Test Conn). No Code. I Remove Jumper, And Restart Engine And All Seems Fine Until I Put Load On Engine. My Car Has Been Sitting For Two Years, Since I Was Battling A Coolent Buzzer Problem That I Have Yet To Resolve. I'm New To This Forum, So I Hope I'm Not Butting In. Sure Could Use Some Help.

Go to page FI-20 for things that can cause the engine to run irregular.

You need to download the faults from the ECU to find out IF there is a fault.

Man I'm glad it's back cause I've got the same problem as the OP!:icon_tup:

BigPimpin' 08-27-08 08:03 PM

Did anyone ever figure out what the problem was? I'm about to part out a low mileage gem If I don't get an answer!:hahaha:

Hailers,

The engine light resets when I turn the key off. There is no code because the engine light is no longer lit when I go to ignition without starting. I followed the proceedure for finding engine codes. Any ideas? Anybody??

Where do I find page FI-20?

I sense that the 'Limp Mode' is old business to many, but in all my hours of reading posts I have not heard any solutions voiced. Does anyone have a cure for this?

Is this a grounding problem with the ECU, harness or the way components are mounted to fender wells, etc. Could a 2 yr. non use cause grounding issues. Didn't have the problem before storage.

I also noticed an extra wire on the coil assy (secondary?), near to the battery. Should this be attached somewhere? Other 2 wires are coil source.

The answer is in the @**((_$^ FSM.
Learn how to read and comprehend the FSM, and the answers will become obvious.

I have all of the problems listed above, but I'm unable to get a code to read. When I turn the key on the light comes on, goes out, and then stays on. What now?:wallbash:
