Catco is OEM on a lot of cars.

i was going to chime in and say they probably stink and likely glow, but i didnt want to speak too soon..
especially when, to my amazement, i looked at the cats i just chopped off my car, and my main cat is a 'Catco' car passed an e-test, and i was suspicious of the cats being clogged, so i had them chopped off.. my precat which looked burned up was already gutted, and my main cat was still looking good - not clogged SO! heres my review of a Catco catalytic converter for an FC. ------------------------------ - i am unaware of when the cat was put on the car, but it looks pretty old. - the precat was GUTTED, so the Catco was doing ALL the work -passed an e-test with flying colours. :) - it stood up to lots of burnt oil during a decarboning process using MMO from the previous owner - it stood up to the rich running and sometimes smoking car when my car was running to rich due to weak spark - it stood up to (what i found out to be) possibly an oil control ring going out? my car burns extra oil at high rpm only if i hold it up high for longer than 30 seconds. (which i never do, but DID do a few times during another testing phase) - after all this, when i removed the cat a few weeks ago, it was still clean on the inside, and definately NOT clogged.. keep in mind the cat has (visually) been on the car for a noteable amount of time, and was still clean as a whistle when i removed it. so, i didnt think id be doing a review, until i stumbled upon the fact that my main cat WAS a Catco cat. but, considering, i will give it this: 'Catco' Brand Catalytic Coverters - https://www.rx7club.com/forum/images/4stars.gif as reviewed by yours truely. :) |
Thank you everyone, im having smog troubles, and its the cheapest cat i can find. What kinda numbers were you getting on the E-tests, and does your state use rollers?

Here is a site I used when my 87 base was failing emissions... HAILERS gave it to me. Last I checked, a bolt in replacement cat for the S4 FC was 179.00.

TY, the catco bolt on is 100, from summit, which would be mor elikly to pass?
|
bolt on replacment is 84 on that site, are these catco cats?
|
the one I was looking at was part # 4689. Who makes them? I couldnt tell ya. Price is down to 160.00.
All I know is for the loot, its a good cat system. Jarret |
NYS inspection has rollers.
I ran H.C CO NOx .49 2.5 0.26 NYS limits: 0.80 15.0 2.00 this was after the car sat since October, I just had it inspected last week, think I could have done better with fresh plugs and after a good drive, but there you have it. |
2.5 co wont pass in CA, i think im gonna go for the duel converter system j-rat posted, which looks the be the samce catco system on summit.

The catco converter works fine on my car.
It's MUCH lighter than the stock set-up and the fact that it flows better will be OBVIOUS to anybody who looks into both of them. Summit has both the single main cat and a dual cat pipe that'll replace all three cats on an NA car. I think I'd probably buy the dual cat pipe if I was to do it over again. Currently I have the stock pre-cats cleaned out and the Catco main cat. One caviot, the Air pipe is a tad long on the Catco. It's no big deal on my car but it could be a problem in other applications. Best selling point - price- if it burns out in two years, so what? buy another one and you've got 4 years of service for less than the Bonez set-up. You could probably search for my name and cats to find the photos I posted when I did mine in March. |

What about the catco high flow unit? 2600 series? anyone used that one yet? :)

According to the summit website, all the catco cats ar high flow.
