Cat mod

So i just finished taking off my exhaust and banging the nasty, corroded beehive out of the cat. I still havent started her yet and i'll see how much of a difference i feel. I have a 86 n/a. I just did it for fun and so she can breathe better. Hopefully she'll be happy with me. I think anyone who has the stock exhaust and is not looking to replace it soon, and who doesn't have to go through emissions should do this.

haha. Oh yeah she was good. I have a problem. It wont idle. I have to keep it above 1500-2000 rpms to keep it going. It does have a little bit more motivation to move (being an N/A) but if it cant idle then what am i to do at a stop light?? Anyway this is my surgery tester car but i like to drive it. So if anybody has any suggestions to why its doing this, that would be very much appriciated. Did I fuck it up?? Oh well if i did cool if i didn't but i gotta know. If anybody else does. Thanks.

How did you affect idle by unrestricting your stock system? What else did you touch?

PS Nismo is "Nissan Motorsports"

Mahzdah 03-11-08 05:06 PM

Thats the weird thing, i didnt touch anything. I dont get it. And yes i know, im just to lazy to change it.

Did you disconnect the airpump hose and reconnect it? Make sure you didnt knock the O2 sensor loose also.

Mahzdah 03-11-08 06:03 PM

i ran out of gas, so in a few minutes here im going to get some and then try it out again because i did disconnect and reconnect the airpump but i dont know. This is such a love/hate realationship...

*steps in flame suit* ok all good. I had i stupid moment. I forgot to connect one of the vaccum lines. sorry for the trouble. Anyway now that it can idle fine the preformance is noticeable. Noticeable enough that 3rd and 4th now 'pull' a little instead of gliding fast.

gj, next time double check everything. enjoy

Yup, you'll have that.

Also, you said you ran out of gas. that's a bad idea. Any gas tank will have a little bit of dirt and sediment built up in the bottom. if you let your tank run down to nothing, you'll blow all that shit through your injectors and engine, and that's just not a good thing to do. That may have hurt you somewhat, too.

THe car needs some kind of backpressure. How many cats did you hollow out?

slow7NC 03-12-08 11:40 AM

You realize your stock cat is worth over 100 bucks to a junkyard/salvage recycling center.

You could have sold it and paid someone to install a test pipe with the money.

Andrizzanizz 03-12-08 12:07 PM

i sold the cats on my vert for 75 bucks.

and anyways.
why the hell did you disconnect the airpump and soem vaccum lines, when i gutted my cats they had nothing to do with those lines.

My first post in this thread, which was the second post in the thread, was deleted. Why?
