Carbon fiber Hood for FC?
The stock hood is WAAY too heavy.. aftermarket Aluminum and Fiberglass hoods are still WAAY to heavy... and I like the look of Carbon Fiber. I have never heard of a fiber RX-7 FC hood, but I may be wrong.
You have a steel hood. Some Rx7's came with aluminum hoods. Until youve seen a aluminum, dont call them heavy. I can carry my aluminum hood around all day by myself.
i have aluminum and its like 30 Ibs, kind of heavy compared to carbon fiber when you have no other weight to loose, anyone know what the knightsports hood is made out of, or weighs?
30lbs? Mine sure as hell doesent feel like it.
The knightsport is probably fiberglass. |
I don't know of any carbon fiber hoods myself. Me, I try to stay away from the unpainted carbon fiber ricey look.
My N/A hood was super light. I could pull it off by myself, carry it all over the place, and never thought it as "heavy." Yes, a CF hood would be nice, but considering the only one I have found was $600, in Japan, and cost over $1000 to ship, I say just get an aluminum hood.
I'm willing to sell my aluminum NA hood for $300 plus shipping if anyone is interested. It's gold. No dents or dings.
damn 300 bucks i got an aluminum tII hood for 350, from cali to here.
That's wayyyyyy too much.
you can get a turbo2 one for that price
for the cost to make your car lighter with a carbon fiber hood why don't you just use the money for performance upgrades and get more horsepower to pull that extra weight.
well, usually new hoods are not only for looks. There is functionability with them. if you get a CF hood, lots of the time you can get them with vents and reverse scoops as to help keep the engine bay from geting extremely hot.
