Carb Cleaner
 

There was a great long thread a little while ago about running Carb Cleaner through the engine by way of a Vacuum hose - my question is, before I do it, why not just drill an 1/8" hole in the air intake bellows, just big enough to take the little red hose thingy from the carb cleaner can and inject it that way? This will get the cleaner right through the intake system as well as the engine and a little gob of silicone will plug the hole afterward.

Carb cleaner dissolves rubber parts. Don't do it. It is not supposed to be used in your engine, and will cause damage.

If you want to put something in your engine for some strange reason, put injector cleaner in your gas tank. I usually use two bottles every 10 fillups.

Wow, now that's an interesting claim if I've ever seen one...you're not supposed to use carb cleaner in your engine cause it will cause damge...

I'm assuming he's talking about the kind that you soak carbs into to clean all the metal?

No- that stuff is insane- the acid dip??
He's talking about the spray-can off the shelf variety.
And yes- I thought about the same method of delivery- that'll clean the throttle plates and VDI as well.

Go for it.
I'd drill the hole on as much as an angle as you can towards the throttle body, so it's squirting in- not down to the other side of the intake pipe and pooling.

Yeah, I'm goijng to give it a try - following the thread I mentioned I will get the stuff that has a lubricant included and I think instead of drilling a hole in the bellows will make one with a heated nail to make sure that no plastic bits get sucked into the intake.
Will post results, if any in a day or so!

Read the can - it'll specifically state if it's safe or unsafe for modern FI sensors...
