car wont start, starter is good.
car is an 88 n/a manual tranny
tested starter 10 times ar aut0zone, it is good battery cables are tight. bypassed the neutral switch and still nothing, battery cables are in the right places and good. main ground on strut tower is good. ok, you turn the key and nothing. the voltage doesnt drop from 12+ no trying to start noise nothing. it will run when push started. any ideas? thanks ben |
re-check all the wiring to the starter? starter solenoid?
|
could be ignition switch, you should really check the voltage reading at the solenoid when the key is in the start position.(you will need two people or a multi meter with long leads). check wiring at starter, should have 12+ on the positive post of the starter at all times. make sure the positive lead isn't corroded or broken. oh maybe try adding another ground to the starter?

there is a tab on the starter where a black and red wire going to it. this wire runs directly to the ignition switch UNLESS there is an anti theft module in place.
this wire goes to a connector right under the dash, to another connector under neath the coul pack on the firewall. check to see if you get 12v at any of these places. the best thing to do is to take a wire and bridge it but like i said, check to see if you get 12v at the starter( the wire that clips into the tab) |
figured it out, my optima battery is bad, go friking figure but it wasnt working at first because of a weak connection at the starter.
other problem, the starter hole in the transmission is partially stripped, im gonna need to re tap it I guess, something else to learn... |
