Car wont Start?

Hey guys, I have an 87 Rx7 and I had a flooding problem about 3 months ago so I installed a fuel cutoff switch and it has worked perfectly so far. Yesterday I get in my car and now it wont start. It cranks over but it wont fire up. I tried to push start it but it wont fire. Its not out of gas but that is what it sounds like. I am going to try and bypass the switch to see if that failed but anyone have any other suggestions?

one more thing a couple of days ago this started when I get on the gas really hard I smell fuel for a couple of minutes than it goes away. could that be a fuel leak? fuel pump? could that be contributing to my problem?

Thanks

Switch probably burned out.

Man I hope so! I will let you know this evening.

Anything else it likley could be.

Could this be the pulsation dampener problem? I remember reading about it when i had a s4, but I don't remember that much about it. Lucky, try doing a search for that to make sure it isn't the problem, I think it can cause a fire if it goes unchecked.

Switch problem, unhooked it and started right up!

This sometimes happens to me. Try to start it, but it just cranks. I fiddle with the fuel cut wires for a few seconds, then she starts right up. Guess I'll have to rewire it. :)

Starion remember to use dielectric grease on the connections, and solder where possible.

Ok so the car worked for 1 week. Yesterday while the car was running I was working under the dash and accidentily touched a bare wire (where the switch was) on the steering colum and the car died and wont start. Acts like the fuel pump is not working. Could I have shorted out the fuel pump or a fuse?

ENGINE FUSE....in the crew compartment. Or...maybe the MAIN fuse in the engine bay. Just minutes to look.

So how do I jump the yellow connector to see if the fuel pump works? do I need to buy a special connector or is there one in the car already?

dr0x 06-15-03 12:49 PM

Get a piece of wire thats about 2 inchs long, crimp a spade connector on each end of it. Then push it into the yellow connector.

Lucky 7's 06-15-03 06:16 PM

So I jumped the yellow relay by the front pass strut and with the key in the on position and nothing from the fuel pump. no noise, no nothing. Could I have shorted the pump?

Check all your fuses (engine compartment and beside the dead pedal). If none are blown take the pump out and apply 12v directly to it and see if it runs.

Lucky 7's 06-15-03 08:23 PM

there are 3 black caps with wires going to them on top of the fuel pump. do these twist off or pull off?

Lucky 7's 06-15-03 08:53 PM

nevermind I just read the manual..:)

Lucky 7's 06-16-03 07:22 PM

Ok, the fuel pump is ok it runs. If I put a tester on the yellow relay switch with the key on shouldnt it light up? if it doesnt where do I look next?

Aargh?
