Car will not crank (at all)
 

Hey guys. My s5 NA swap into my s5 NA coupe will not crank now. I am sure it is a minor issue I just need a little direction.

The car has been cranking fine and then I had it towed home because I am having a minor fuel issue and now it will not crank at all. I think it is a relatively small issue and I have done a bit of searching, I just want to hear something direct and give the exact symptoms.

I thought the battery to the car was dead so I took it back and got a new one. Stuck it in and it does the same thing. The car has power to everything, blower, lights, seat belt tracks and all. When I go to crank it everything turns off briefly.

There is no clicking, no relays clicking, NOTHING. Underhood fuses are fine. Terminals are clean and tight.

You guys think something got loose on the tow ride home?

Im having the same problem. I drove the car home from Las Vegas to Los Angles last night. Drive went smoothly. Get in my driveway and turn off my car. Last night i went to start it up again to move it around the driveway so people could get out and nothing. No crank. I went to bed and figured i could deal with it in the morning.

I just got back from out there and i swapped a new battery in, and everything still nothing. Same this as the OP. If you have response then theirs only a few things it could be. Battery cables, or starter. Im gonna go out and try and run run power to the starter and see if i can get it to crank over. I'm leaning towards me having a bad starter. But cables aren't out of the question. I'm pretty sure they are original :(

To the OP: Make sure all your battery cables are tight, on the battery and the starter. Also make sure the ground on the tranny mounting bolt on the driver side is tight as well.

Check the spade connector on the top of the starter.

yeah ima have to check all of thos ewires and connections again.

Check the spade. If the ignition switch wire to the solenoid came loose durring the tow (by coincidence maybe) then you turn key, no starter. another thought could be the starter itself. "hotwire" the car with the ingnition ON. and if no juice.. new starter..

guys I checked the spade and the other connections and still wont work.

I know I should know how to do this but i never have before, but I need to know how to jump it.

i pulled the starter and had it tested and it is fine. What else u guys think it could be?

See if there's 12V at the big wire.

Take a piece of wire and connect the positive lead on the starter to the solenoid trigger contact. And be sure the transmission is out of gear since you'll be underneath it.

If the starter spins (which it should), then that will narrow a bit. The ignition switch gets power from the main fuse, which is connected to the battery via a secondary positive lead. Power from this source is directed to the starter solenoid, but it can also be interrupted by the clutch safety switch. So you can start checking over everything in the ignition circuit.

so basically hop a wire from the positive terminal to the ground pin or the other threaded peice with nothing going to it? Which one is the solenoid contact?

ok guys 5 tried everything and it was the main relay that was the issue, right behind the trailing coil pack. It started up and ran like a champ. Now it is leaking coolant all over the place!! Lol time to fix that tomorow
