Car starts for 5 seconds, then stalls

i pu tthe manifold, and when i go to start the car it turns on for like 5 secs adn then just looses power and stalls. does ne one kno the problem

i would say the problem is you gave no real information for us to help you with.... what have you done to the car? did you turbo it? just slap on a manifold? which manifolds? did you portmatch the manifolds adequately? what are you doing

list more information and more help will come

sorry about the sparse info. Ihave a 86 rx7 witha 1/4 bridgeport. I put the stock turbo manifold on my car adn yes the manifold was ported out so teh aux. ports are always open. When i first started the car it had a huge vacuum leak. I fixed that and then when i went to start it it would start for a few seconds and then cut off. It ran perfect before the manifold was put on. I was wondering if the premix gas could of fouled out the plugs because i eliminated the oil injection. thanks for the input.

i also wanted to add that i am running on the stock ecu

Check your AFM, that's a typical thing if it's not hooked up. It's also still very likely that you have a intake leak. Why would you use turbo manifolds on an n/a vehicle? Unless you supercharge it or turbo charge it, it provides no benefit.

i plan to turbo and the afm is hooked up. I extended the harness adn i am positive that all the wires are correct.

I updated the title of this thread so at least it has something to do with your question.

I too think that your problem involves the AFM. Try jumping the yellow test connector at the passenger shock tower and see if the car starts. That forces the fuel pump to run regardless of the input from the AFM.

86mazdarx7 01-13-05 03:30 PM

by jumping it do you mean hooking it directly to the battery or hooking to a live source like ignition

Aaron Cake 01-13-05 03:42 PM

NO. Connect the two terminals together.

jreynish 01-13-05 03:47 PM

did you hook your fuel rails up wrong?
From fuel filter to FPR, then from PD to the return line?
This happned to mine when I accidently hooked them up wrong would run for a matter of seconds. Also ensure that what Aaron Cake advised jump the connector so that the fuel pump runs regardless, if that makes the difference that there is a prob with your afm, there is another possibility that I can think of is the Relay that runs your fuel pump check that one out also.

did you remove any vacuum lines?? Sounds like a huge vacuum leak somewhere.
Check the brake booster lines (large vacuum line) to the rear of the upper manifold.
Check the AFM connection to turbo.

does the order that the injectors go into the fuel rail matter

bigdongsr94 01-24-05 04:21 PM

it would matter although ive had them backwords and it stil ran...sorta. I dont think this is it but also make sure you have a ground connected to your engine.

Did my words fall on deaf ears? Did you take a look at these things?

Pyrocloud 01-24-05 06:05 PM

I had a problem just like this.

My 7 would run for a few seconds and then die.
It turned out that one of the connectors for the wiring harnes had come lose.
Check all your connectors esp the ones inside on the passenger side under the dash. There are a few really hard to get to connectors back in there.

Just a sug.
