Car shakes above 40mph

I dont know why, but my car shakes pretty bad going 40 mph, it just happened today. It shakes my whole car pretty bad and i dont know why, anyone have any ideas? Could it be a U-Joint? How would i check to see if it was a U-Joint.

It could be a U-Joint, a failing tire, that squirrell you hit, whatever. Check everything.

Or just a clump of dirt stuck on the inside of a wheel.

You should be able to feel if it's driveline or suspension related.

check all your lugs make sure they are tight. and do what they said above

More then likely it's the front U joint on the driveshaft. But you'll need to lift up the car and inspect the entire drivetrain to make sure.

things to look for to diagnose strange vibrations

1) Is it in the seat or in the steering wheel... If the steering wheel = most like your front wheels... only feel it when you hit the brakes and mostly in the steering wheel = front brakes

If in the seat and not in the steering wheel = drivetrain or rear wheels.. Only feel it in the seat when you hit the brakes= rear wheels

2) grab the shifter.... if the shifter seems to be vibrating more that the rest of the car... drivetrain.. Push in the clutch... still there = clutch, driveshaft, punkin Not there = engine/ flywheel

my Buddies drive shaft actually came lose on his 88N/A... id check the drive shaft... not sure if you were aware but i dont believe it a replacable U-Joint... good luck!

i doubt this will help, but i was having some fun in hte snow in my dads car and it started shaking when i got back on clear roads going 45. i pulled over and cleaned out all the snow around the steering thing going to each front wheel and it didnt do it anymore.

could be the tires...on my dad's accord the steel belts actually separated and there was a nasty vibration in the front end (the belts broke on the front tire)

wheel may be out of balance...valve stem counter balance may have shifted or fallen off

could be your tires are out of balance check that too to see if the weight is still there
