Alright, I have a 91 na (auto). And I myself dont know shit about cars. When I turn on my a/c my car will die when idleing. It works fine when I'm cruisin around but as soon as I come to a stop.....dead. Also I noticed my car just idles low period. And occasionally when I put the car in gear it'll die too. It starts right back up, but it is very annoying.

Look for a bad ground, or it could be your idle sensor needs to be replaced.

could be a blown resistor in the ecu that controls the bac valve

Check the TPS before doing anything else!!

I beg to differ…check your BAC valve. Make sure it's functioning and getting proper signal from the ECU. If you find that the BAC is not receiving a proper signal check out this thread:

This is your problem most likely.

Please test and adjust your TPS.
If you reply and say that you did already, then tell me HOW you did this.

I bet theres a problem with the testing or the adjusting method.

I can take even low compression cars and make them hold idle with a proper TPS adjustment.

That's a great idea. But what about doing what my friend did. If it dies with the air on...don't turn it on...LOL. I swear he did it.

Then again your problem may be something else. It could be a simple case of you idle not being set right. If the idle is not set with the initial set coupler in place (disables the bac and inputs to same) at 750, then you are making the bac work its butt off to maintain the 750 idle when the initial set coupler is removed. Now you come along and apply a a/c load and the poor overworked bac can't cut the mustard because its already at its full duty cycle and says *I'm going on strike* and the engine dies. BUT, I place my money on the burnt out transistor or the socket in the bac plug being pushed back and not making contact. Comprende??

or you could just not be using enough throttle to get you moving. The A/C does take a bit of power when turned on... I've stalled a few times, because I forgot I had the a/c on and not using more throttle stalled me.

Or the others could be right, it's your TSPs.

edit: wait, did you say moving or staying still?

Simple question: At idle, if you turn your air conditioner on, do the rpms increase approx 100rpm or does the idle drop. If the idle drops= bad bac circuit, if the idle increases= poorly set idle is causing the engine to die when coming to a stop with the a/c turned on.

Well when I got my 90 Rx a few years ago it did the same thing. Yeah I tried all the aformentioned solutions. It turns out that my engine was weak. Low compression, 7's. Just not strong enough at idle to pull the compressor. I knew the engine was tired when I bought it. Original owner babied the engine. Result, more carbon than a bag of Kingsford charcoal. She finally carbon locked and I put a MANA rebult in. No more stalls. Hope your problem isn't this racical. But you may want to have a compression test done just to find out.

Hey guys - he is new - how about some fundamentals, like the Wankel engine makes a lot of power but is down on low end torque. Half of the stuff you see on top of the motor is for idle speed control. The posts above show how to reset these systems. In the meantime you may have to up your idle speed while you find the problem.

I was wondering if the transistor item number at radio shack is the same for a 91 T2 as for an 87?
