Can't shoot flames anymore even after installing 720s?
Mods in the sig
Before I ported my wg months ago my car would shoot flames whenever I got on the throttle a little and then let off under load. After I ported it and put on an Apexi power intake it wouldnt shoot flames. After my car had been down for a few weeks, I installed an SAFC2 (untuned) and greddy 720s in the secondaries. When I first started it up and warmed it up it would shoot flames fine at idle but now it no longer does even under load. Just wondering what if anything changed because I would think it would be running alot richer. I also blocked off my ACV as well. It doesnt bother me much but just wondering why. |
same thing happened to me.....I hope it get's fixed with the dyno tune.......it might mean it's running lean...but I am not sure.
|
The lack of flamage generally indicates a good tune.
|
I had mine set to pig rich( no money for dynotune at the time)....and still nothing.
|
Same thing happened to my NA, after rebuilding the engine, it would shoot small blue flames like crazy!! After a while, no flames what-so-ever :(
|
Well, if I remember correctly, running richer = lower exhaust temps, running leaner = higher exhaust temps, so maybe you're running rich enough now (before tuning) that it isn't hot enough to ignite in your exhaust system? Just a thought.
|
hmmm.....well I will know after the dyno tune!
|
dDub- that makes alot of sense. Maybe I will turn my injectors down 20-30% closer to stock levels above 4k.

I still think dDub hit the nail right on the head.
|
Yes I know. More fuel = more unburnt fuel in the exhaust pipe, but running richer = lower exhaust temperatures therefore it may not be igniting in the pipe anymore. That's my theory on the situation. Yes he has more fuel going through but the temps have lowered and it's no longer igniting.

you could run really rich and do the ol' spark plug in the tailpipe trick lol

lol yeah i kno

Yeah i'm curious why this is a problem to you.
do you WANT to be a ricer? --Matt |
I don't think he stated it as a problem, he just wanted to know why it happened.
|
well, you said you ported it, right?? If you got a port job done, I would assume it is getting more air in the engine, so this will affect your fuel-air ratio. Flames occur with running richer, as we all know, and now that you are running with more air, it will affect this. Keep in mind that larger injectors will still only push the amount of fuel they are told to push, right??

Ricer for shooting flames.. Whatever.
Anyway, you're stifling it. Too much fuel, too little air, the heats probably enough to ignite it, but it's just not enough air. I find I get the best flames when I'm tuned for around 10:1 or 11:1, just flooding the snot out of it generally yeilds none (unless you WOT 3rd until redline then nail the brakes, that generally will ignite just about anything and keep them rolling out the pipes for a good 5 seconds) |
i wasn't saying he was a ricer for shooting flames but later on the 1st page they started talking about putting a spark plug in the exhaust, and to me that's very shady...
|
sorry the whole spark plug thing was a joke
and yes doing that would be considered rice to me. shooting them naturally wouldnt be rice. in my oppinion |
Tune your car really shitty and youll get flames
Flames are a product of running too rich and excess gas passing through the exhaust while ignited. |
