Cant Keep Started =(

I got my car to start finally yesterday, it takes flooring the pedel and 10 seconds of cranking, i can keep it reved up for a few seconds then it just dies.

87 T2

I was thinking it was the Injectors or the AFM but both seem to be ok. Both primary injectors have power and the resister tested fine. When it does rev up the engine sounds good and all the seals are intact, the wiring on the afm is a little hacked but the guy i got the car from said it used to work fine. All emmissions have been removed and theres only two vacumm lines that i can see and there both on anyone had this problem?

heres a pic of what it kinda looks like in here:

Have T2 IC on there not the black pipe

Mods i know of are SAFC, TB Mod, FPR and emissions removal.

sounds EXACTLY like afm problems. He said the wiring was hacked... you should take a close look at it. I think that's where your problem is.

:werd: I had the same problem right after my rebuild. It was extremely difficult to start (I had to do the unflood trick of pulling my plugs after every time), and when it did start, it would run for 4-5 seconds, then die. EVERY time. Here's what I did to fix/isolate the problem.

First and foremost: replace the plugs and wires, if it's not turning over every time, you likely need new plugs, or at least clean yours. This allowed me to have it turn over every time I turned the key.

Second: There's a two wire plug (yellow or black, if memory serves me, check your FSM, I'm at work), located right around the AFM on the wiring harness. When you jumper it (short the two wires out), it will make the fuel pump run any time the key is in the "run" position. you can hear the fuel pump kick on if you have the key on run when you jumper this.

If you can start and run the car when this is jumper, your AFM or it's connection is toast. I would not recommend leaving the fuel pump jumpered perminently, but I will admit that I had to drive my car for a week like that until my new AFM came in.

Good luck!

Reviving a 15 year old thread started by someone who hasnt been active on the board in over 5 years. Doubt you'll be getting an answer.
