Can't get vert top to go down

I own an 88 vert. The other night i came home and put the top up, nothing out of the ordinary happened. The following day i went outside and decided to enjoy the nice top down weather, but when i unlatched the top and proceeded to twist the switch to engage the lowering process all i got was a series of rapid beeps (much faster than the normal series of beeps) then an extended beep.....then nothing. The top didnt move or anything. Ive searched and couldnt find anything. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to chime in. Thanks in advance!

Engine jam? fuse? Tried lowering it manually?

If you must have it down now there are two options.
look in the owner's manual for the emergency manual lowering instructions, or do what I did and scrap the motors and raise/lower manually. If you have a copy of the FSM use the info in the chassis electrical system chapter to test the motors.

dude, mine work fine, but are they heavy? I might sell you mine if you want them!

I did not think that a manual lowering would be "possible" on ann FC, and it's better anyway, because if shit ever breaks, I wont be stuck in a bathtub! :D

Haven't looked at the manual lately, but rapid beeps is an error such as your not in neutral/park or the ebrake isn't engaged, if you have it in neutral and the ebrake is set the top switch might be dead but then i don't think it would beep, same thing for the motors, if the motors were dead it would beep like normal just not move.

Like everyone has said before you can check your manual to override the motors (turn a screw in each motor to disable) or just chuck them, they are a like a ton a piece anyways.

Matt is correct.. fast beep indicates the parking brake is not engaged. Check the parking brake switch

(BTW matt, there were no auto tranny 88 verts, so it would not be the neutral/park).

True, I was trying to remember that there are some out there rocking the auto, and whilst trying to include everybody forgot there were no auto s4 verts:)

It did turn out to be the ebrake that was causing it not to work. Somehow the spring wasnt touching the metal tab all of the way. Thanks for everyone's help!!
