Can't get car in gear while eng running
A friend told me he can't get his car in gear while the eng is running. When the eng is off it goes in with no probs. I haven't seen the car just going by what he said. What do you guys think? I'm having him tow it to my house to figure it out but wanted some ideas.. Thanks

Worn out clutch disk.
That's what I'm thinking
could be anything related to clutch, master, slave, disk, pressureplate, throw out bearing, piolot bearing, first check to see if the slave clyander moves when u push the clutch in
I had this problem and just replaced the slave, it seems to be fine for right now but a new master one is on my list.
cool

If the clutch disc were worn out, it wouldnt engage right. In this case, the clutch isnt disengaging to let him get into gear. Could be hydraulic, or release fork popped off pivot ball, or pressure plate broke, something like that. But yeah, check to make sure the piston extends out of the slave enough to push the fork back.

...what they said^^^^

dude just had the exact same prob. do this pop the hood and go to the slave cylender look for a tube connected to the back of the engine bay thats connected to it with a foam spacer on the tube. now look for holes. if you do or do not see any still try this. pump the clutch by hand 20 times w/ engine running and try to engage. if it does then that tube or one that connects to it has a hole in it, find it replace it and car is good.

I swapped clutch master and slave and same thing. dropping the tranny to see what happened. Will post progress tommorow..
it's probably the pilot bearing. i just went through 2 failures in the space of about 3 months. you'll want to check both the pilot bearing and then input shaft after that.
Just got done fixing the car for him.. It was the piot bearing. it was in pieces.. Thanks for all the help.. Awsome Forum!!!
Too bad almost all the guys in the beginning got it wrong...including *GASP* HAILERS??? :)
I would've said pilot bearing myself. :D -Ted |
Yah.. I didn't think it was the pilot bearing. Now I have learned something new..
