Can't Chirp Tires, But Clutch Still Grabs

OK, I am wondering if I have fried my clutch, or if I have just removed too much torque. When I shift quickly, I used to be able to chirp the tires very well, now I can only do it when I am racing. Is my clutch gone, or because I have wired open my 5th and 6th ports, is there too little torque to break the tires loose? Also, my C.A.P. clutch is only 5 months (approx 3k miles) old. My clutch feels really smooth between gear changes, and I am just wondering if I should stop bitching and just get over it.

I dunno what it is, but I've got the same problem with my daily driver '92 Civic EX. I used to be able to chirp them in 2nd easy and occasionally in 3rd. But now I can't even do it in 2nd. I'm guessing it's because the clutch is a little worn out.

Other reasons, something's loose or worn out like a motor mount or some bushing?

yes it's because you wired your 6 ports sotp bitching! :bigthumb:

Oh well. I can stil whup up on any ricer I want to....Just not off the line! ;) Like I said, when I am racing, I can get the rear end all squirrely, it's just I used to be able to do it all the time!! I'm still gettin used to the less torque I guess.

your car is faster now, tire chirping is wasted energy, now all of the power goes to the ground instead of being wasted in making the tires spin :)

are you driving it differently? some people's driving habits change over time.

Well, I am slipping the clutch a little more to keep from bogging down on soft launches, and I am shifting better. This is my first manual car, and I burned the original clutch out with in 2 months of owning it. But, like I said, the clutch had 96k miles on it. I have no idea how it survived that long. I am shifting quicker, and more smoothly.

Hey rico, maybe you're tranny is getting back at you for forcing it to comply when your shifter was messed up :)

Very funny. The shifter is still smooth as silk, and no grinding (except when I missed a shift the other night racing an Acura CL).

Hey, did you read what happened with skippydogs car? He posted a thread on it, pretty damn funny! Good luck with chirping ;)

blu_gxl 03-28-02 03:48 PM

you still might be able to chirp you just need to launch at a higher rpm when i had mine wired i was launching at 4k or 4.5k instead of the 3.5k-4k i usualy do and try not to slip it to much your prob. losing some power and momentum that way
