Can you temporarily wedge/wire the wastegate open??
OK, I am putting a turbo on my car... but I have yet to find an intercooler to front mount, for really cheap.... I'm just being patient... I know there out there.
Anyways.... There is NO WAY I am going to put the turbo on without a big FMIC... I have high compression N/A rotors (umm, N/A engine!!).. and while I have the S-AFC, and 550 cc injectors, with my intake and exhaust, I can easily see boost going to 10psi. (Boom goes engine without interccoling!!) Anyways, I REALLY want to get this turbo on- I want the power, and I am looking forward to it being quieter!! (No freakin headers!!) My question.... can I put the turbo on, (so it's quieter!!) and tie the wategate open?? Should only give 1 or 2 psi... which is fine with me untill I get the intercooling and piping all made up...but at least I'd be able to drive it around.... Is that wastegate opening doable? |
What kind of turbo and wastgegate?

What kind of manifold are you using to bolt the turbo to the engine?
|
Oh- it's a stock s5 turbo and manifold.
I'm making the exhaust manifold spacer right now...Its all cut and drilled, I just have to weld it. |
No, you can't do this to a stock turbo.  It'll still hit 5psi+ with the stock wastegate.

Wow... I guess thats why everyone ports theirs! That could lead to nutty boost creep! Isn't an s4 wastegate even worse?
Well... 5 PSI I could handle without intercooling... (I do have 3mm seals) I'd just richen it up a bit and back the timing off untill the intercooler is in.... Maybe a bottle of 104 octane boost with each tank could help too. |
