Can u Swap Miata Ring and Pinion into a N/A??
 

Hey all, I am looking at putting in a different rear gear in my RX7, and I am having trouble finding it (I want a 4.44). While looking 4 this R&P I stumbled accross a Miata site that said the 1994-1999 Miata's had a differential that was based on the N/A RX7 Diffs, in fact they said that the clutch LSD could be used in a Miata. But I was wondering if the R&P for a Miata could be used in a RX7, cuz I have been able to find 4.44 Ring And Pinions for the Miata.

No. Not without modification, anyways. The diff may be swapped but the ring gear attaches to the diff and matches the pinion held in an RX-7 specific case. I had the same idea a while back and that's what I found. I think there is some site about swapable miata stuff called solomiata.com maybe? Do a search for ring and pinion, you might be able to find it.

Well, I am currently swapping a torsen LSD from a 95 Miata into my N/A FC differential. It looks like the ring gears are mounted slighlty different, but Im not sure. I have both diffs laying around so I suppose I could go give them a good look over and see if I can see any conflicts, if no one can give a definate answer.

The miata diff is a few inches shorter than the FC one, and the mounts are totally different. You better have a deep wallet, or enjoy fabrication if you want to pull it off.

Like I have said many times, anythign can be done with enough money, but if you have to ask, you cant pull it off.

Good conept, except, even if you have the money, chances are you're not going to know what to do anyway, so you're going to have to ask. Just my opinion heh ;)

To put Miata gears into the RX7, you'd need a lot of parts.

FB Carrier Housing

An FB Carrier housing uses the same bolt holes as an FC housing (except it has 2 extra holes). You'd in effect be converting from a long-pinion differential to a short-pinion. Of corse you have other things, such as the front differential mount and driveshaft to worry about. The driveshaft is no problem, but the FB's carrier housing doesn't have a front differential mount...

I'd like to get ahold of a 1.8L Miata Carrier housing to see where the bolt holes are located. Because the Miata actually HAS a front differental mount, there is a place to make an extension, based off of the stock mounting points...

If you have to ask, you dont have the mentality to do it. If you have the money to have someone else do it, you dont have to know how to do it. Then there are the people who know they can fabricate whatever is necessary to make it work, and can solve the problem themselves, instead of asking what to do. My point is that if you could fabricate the stuff necessary to do things like that, you will know what needs to be done, you wont need to be told.

Allright, I though it might be easy, and I am sure that I could do it (my step-dad is a machinest(sp) and a friend of mine can weld, plus I had to fabricate a TON of sh*t on my bike but I just don't feel like going through that much trouble right now).
Now I have to ask if anyone knows where I can get 4.44 ring&pinion for a FC N/A diff?

The front diff off a 4wd kai sportage. Search the net, i remember seeing a list of what cars had ring gears that fit the miata diff. FYI, FB ring and pinions fit also, so theres 4.88 and 5.12. 99 miatas had a 4.3 ring and pinion, as did some of the early 1.6 cars, but i believe those arent as strong.
