can i run my fuel pump off of a toggle switch and wire it to the battery ?

i was wondering if i could hook up my fuel pump directly to the battery and a toggle switch in the middle so i can run my fuel pump since there is a problem between the ignition and the fuel pump. i know its a lazy way to do it but i just want to be able to move my 7 around and get my other cars in my garage. so are there any write ups about this or any advice you guys can give me ?

Look up fuel pump rewire. I would not wire the pump directly through a switch alone. You can have the switch operate a relay, which then powers the pump. If you go only through a switch, you risk burning up the contacts, which will drop fuel pump voltage.

so if i get a relay and a switch i can hook it up to a battery ? i tested it in my shop by just connecting the pump to a battery and it pumps fuel but then when i turn the key/ crank it, it doesnt run . ( my friend is going to help me, he knows alot about rewiring stuff ) but basicly this is what i was thinking : run new wires from the ground and power wire from the fuel pump, connect them to a relay or switch ( i dont know which one should go first ) and then connect it to a power source? thanks for the advice Rotaryrocket

just run a switch from the relay its much easier

how did you come to the conclusion that you have this wiring problem? have you jumpered the yellow two pin diagnostic connector on the passenger shock tower?
