Can the ATF trick cause any damage to the Engine??? i need to know before i try!
 

i want to try the atf trick and i need to know if it can hurt my engine at all in any way! i dont like taking chances!

Well, anything is possible. Most likely, though, there will be no damage. I've done it with great success.

It all depends on mileage. It can't physically take chunks out of your engine or anything, but it can remove bits of carbon that were filling nicks in your housings, or keeping your seals nice and flush. That'll lower your compression, and you'll be worse off than you started. Bottom line, don't do it unless you're desperate IMHO.

The most risk is to your cats if you still have them. If you use too much ATF you can melt the cats down. The chances that it will help improve your compression are far greater than it hurting your compression.

I did it once. I let it sit for a week while I was working on other things. After that, I began to have excessive fuel dilution in oil. Too much of a coincidence for me. Never again! In fact, I recently put some carboned up rotors in ATF and let it sit for 48 hours. Guess what, did not work. Put them in paint thinner and the carbon peeled off with ease. Note, I am not recommending you put paint thinner in your motor :D . Just giving you a comparison.

You can use STP's engine flush. THis product cleans out carbon and sludges (and other crap) that are in your engine. I used it on my other cars and it works gerat. It also reconditons the seals to stop oil leak.

The engine ran a lot smoother and quieter. No more rough idle or anything.

For best results, use STP engine flush according to the insturctions. In other words, it is simple as hell if you know how to change your oil. :D

Hey, there is something called Sea Foam selled at Napa Autoparts... it's great on the sludge and what not and especially the carbon.. just dont leave it in too long wait about 3 or 4 hundred miles then change your oil b/c it has potential to messs something up... not that it will but, it has the potenticity to mess stuff up... it can go in your gas, oil, tranny, anything... there are two seprate cans for the oil-gas and what not and the tranny... make sure you get the right one... it's worked on all my cars and lawnmowers and what not it's a great product... i give it a 10... :)

I Used seafoam. It is a great product. It helps smooth out idle. But I think the dude wants to clean the internal of his engine, not his intake manifold.

Fuel dilution of oil is normal with rotaries, esp. rotaries that spend lots of time at high RPM. My '80 didn't blow blue smoke but it would add a quart of gasoline to the oil over the course of 2500-3000 miles. In the early 80's Kent Racing developed a quick-dump oil system so they could change their oil in the course of a race, because of the fuel dilution!

Sea Foam works great, won't hurt anything and does burn off the carbon in the motor. My last 87 TII had over 178k miles on it and ran like new. Used it every 5k miles or so and never had a compression, oil, or gas problem.

Cleans injectors, manifolds, and internals. The only one I used was the fuel additive. I did pour a small amount into the oil (just an ounce or 2) and the rest went into the fuel tank. I even used a vacumn line on the manifold to suck some in when I first got the car. Works great. Burns off carbon. Not sure if the cats are ok with it since I never keep the cats on my turbo models :D

Another product that works very well is the Lucas Oil fuel system cleaner......version of the same thing. I have only used it once in my RX7 though. Worked very good in my other cars.
