Calling Brian D. Cain

You put an electric Corvette smog pump in your car. Do you have a write up on it?
Could you give me the How to on it?
What year corvette is it from.

carx7 04-26-02 12:21 PM

Well, I'm not Brian though I did meet him once and go for a ride:) And I don't think he'll mind me copying this response of his to the list. I also did this, although in Az I have been hassled to NO END trying to get my car to pass. I've passed the sniffer but I'm still working on the visual:(

Anyway, hope this helps, and I can add something if this isn't clear. I will say this. I have learned that these pumps are NOT designed to run full time. I have spoken to some LS1 guys and I was told that the duty cycle is 2min otherwise you'll burn the pump up. I'm not sure of the year. Look on ebay, I picked mine up for $30 "smog pump".Then look for corvette, camarro, impalla etc anything with that engine. Good luck.

Here's Brian's response:

What I did was locate the pump in the back passenger-side corner (of the
firewall) near the wiper switch and wiring harness. The 'Vette pump has
three leads on it -- Red, Orange, and Black. When I was on the floor
goofing with it, I discovered that if I applied power to both Red and Orange
at the same time, along with ground to Black, the pump would run
continuously. So, what I did was configure a PWM on the E6K (Dual Intake
Valve; this will let the user configure the pump to be on in a specified
range of engine RPMs) to provide +12VDC power to the pump (to both red and
orange leads spliced together). From there, I stuck a K&N crank case filter
on the inlet of the pump (not the skinny little ones but the slight-bit
larger ones; maybe even the ones used on the smog pump kits and what not)
and then routed the outlet of the pump straight into the inlet of the
catalytic-convertor, leaving the factory one-way check valve in place.

That's it. =)

You can get an idea of what I'm talking about here:

Isn't their another thread about this???

A pump from any LS1/LT1 engine will work.. that means Trans Am, Firebird, Camaro, Corvette, Crown Vic... Impala... etc.
As long as it's electric.

RarestRX 02-23-03 12:17 AM

Yo,

Is he still around? If anyone could PM me his email, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Ah, give 'em a break -- I haven't posted on here in many months so he had no clue what my ID was. I don't mind there being a thread here and there with someone looking for me.
