Rpeck 04-01-02 11:17 PM

OMG, I was reading that and they said "8 mile road" I just about shit myself ...small world! I live less than 10 mins. from 8 mile road... sure enough I look those guys are from Stockton :) I want in on this 8 mile race bussiness.

Blues77 04-01-02 11:26 PM

the dude in the c5 cant drive

Green 04-01-02 11:28 PM

Hehe correct me if I'm wrong.. But Vtech in essense is the use of 2 different cam sets? like one cam set is better for low end torque, then it switches to a cam set that is better for higher end rpms? OR am I a moron and I shouldn't open my mouth about stuff I don't know ? (remember only engine I ever worked on was a rotary)
and for that fact what is a cam? (joke :) )

There are some nice Vette owners.. Who acually know what they have,, and get their elbows dirty in greese working on them.. And then there are some Vette owners who won the lottery, and take their Vette down the street to jim's lube shop for oil changes and buy some different rims for them and buy Corvette Jackets... What was my point? Oh yea! some people are morons and shouldn't open their mouths about things they don't know anything about!!

DOH!

Terrh 04-01-02 11:31 PM

yeah, that's how VTEC works.

it runs on the small lobes till ~5000RPM then switches to the monster racing lobes for bigass amounts of high end power while still having low end drivability
it's also why some hondas have crazy high redlines (9k in the s2000)
It's actually not the best system for controlling a cam, but it's FAR better than no system at all.
Porsches have VarioCam, BMWs have one too (but I forget what it's called)

Rpeck 04-01-02 11:35 PM

I must say though .... those 2 guys are dumb as nails racing on the west side of 8 mile like they did. I used to go out there and run my street bike up in the 150's till a big ass skunk jumped out in front of me and damn near killed me one day. Also that road gets bumpy as all hell the futher down you go. There is better places in Stockton to run those cars.

von 04-01-02 11:37 PM

LOL...Major amounts of power huh... My friend drove an SI honda (160hp) and said he can barely feel the vtec kick in..It was like a joke.

VTEC...Magical magical thing. Go read on the honda forum how these guys swere by it. Always talking about their VTEC kicking in and spanking on everyone.

phinsn98 04-01-02 11:40 PM

funny

MD is a funny mofo. What did you all think of the Oh Fu*k pic. I would probably say the same thing.

Late

von 04-01-02 11:40 PM

Hows stockton these days.. I was born thier but dont remember living thier. How is it? If thiers racing spots then I dont see why I even left.

Rpeck 04-01-02 11:50 PM

Ahh there is a few spots to cut loose... But the cops are comming down hard on ll the weekend ricers. You best to stay away from that group.

Cheers! 04-02-02 12:10 AM

having driven a non-vtec accord everyday to highschool for 2 years i can honestly they are almost hte same as a 2002 accord Speical edition 4 cyc

only diff is the power doesn't die off as quickly when you are running to fuel cut which is 6750 rpms on the 94 and like 6600 or so for the 2002.

RexRyder 04-03-02 02:06 PM

how much NOS did that guy in the civic have?

Here's a link that covers Toyoata's VVTL-i (similar to Honda's V-TEC) and Porsche's VarioCam Plus. Both of these switch to a cam profile that has different timing and lift, whereas BMW's VANOS only alters the cam timing, but it's infinitely variable, not just a changover. Great stuff! :D

Perhaps YOU should drive one before you make comments about systems you obviously don't understand. Do you know of any N/A engines that have power/litre ratios as high as Honda's V-TEC motors that don't use some form of cam lift/timing control? Mazda needed the auxiliary port system to get 160hp but I don't hear you knocking that...

jimmyv13 04-03-02 05:08 PM

I test drove a '99 Civic SI a few months ago, the VTEC kick was very strong. If your friend could barely feel the VTEC then there was something wrong with the car.

CanadianRX7 04-03-02 06:27 PM

a couple of my friends have civics
a 93 si vtec hb,93 hb some mods,02 civic coupe.
U do notice the vtec but not much more then when my secondaries kick in. I raced my friend and he has full hks exhuast, headers, cold air intake, ignition, short shifter, and a couple other little things done to the engine. He beats me off the line by a bit but when i shift to 3rd gear he shifts to 4th gear. I usually pull on him at the very end of 2nd or beging of 3rd gear.

The 2002 vtec is a complete joke though unless its the hb version. Its slow but then again its a i-vtec or something which is made for economy.

Civics are nice cars and where i live i dont see like any riced out civics around here. There is a guy in town with a 93 style coupe and he has a integra engine and now that thing is fast well compared to my n/a but i know he would give a TII a ago. I dont see why everyone is always saying civics are slow, i bet more civic owners have more mods to the engine on average then rx7 owners do.

hyperdaddy7 04-03-02 07:21 PM

i kind of agree...but civics are a dime a dozen and since you see them everywhere they are nothing special. also the difference between rx-7's and civics is that rx-7's were ment to go fast and civics are not..they were designed to be an economy car from day one and thatis all they are.

bingoboy 04-03-02 08:27 PM

hehehe good stuff it is :)

StonedDrone 04-03-02 09:02 PM

lol..I needed a good laugh

hondabluesi 04-19-02 09:02 PM

The dx, ex civics were not made to go fast. Although the si and type r were! I beat the hell out of a gxl the other day. HAHA
