a/c elec. fan question

So, in front of the condensor is a factory elec. fan that I believe switches on with the a/c on max. I didnt have one on my car and acquired one from a forum member. Upon trying to install it I've hit a bump.

Reading the service manual shows me that the fan relay is one of these...

Bundled up in these wires was this plug...
http://altomo.info/~kenny/images/RX7/fan_02.jpg

my dilema is this is the plug on the fan (which I cant find any matching plugs in the area)...
http://altomo.info/~kenny/images/RX7/fan_01.jpg

So, Im ASSUMING (and yes, I know what making assumptions does) that these two are supposed to mate. But as you see here...
http://altomo.info/~kenny/images/RX7/fan_04.jpg
they dont match.

So, where do I go from here? Am I even on the right path? I'm not really too adept at reading wiring schematics and putting them to use, just never really learned honestly. Being that I cant find a plug that matches whats on the fan, I'm left to assume that either the fan is from a different model (maybe S5?) or my car wasnt wired for such.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It should mate with the oval two pin plug of the fan. As shown in the third picture.

I looked, and the mating plug on mine has two wires. One yellow and the other yellow with black stripe. That's on a 87 that was n/a and is now turbo. It had no fan if memory serves and I added that fan........if memory serves.

Pull the plug off those relays. The FAN relay has six sockets on its plug. Twos sockets are EMPTY. One has a yellow/black wire, another a Black/yellow wire, another a Black wire and the last a green/red wire. See if you have those.

would you mind following the plug from the car to the fan and see where it originates from?

There's a fairly thick harnes that runs near the two horns. On that harness, there the two wires for the fan breakout of that thick harness, almost inbetween the two horns. A little closer to the left horn than the right horn. See if you can't find that place where the two wires for the fan plug breakout. You are looking for a yellow and a yellow/black wire on a two socket plug.

awesome. brb

k, the only breakout I have out of the large harness is where the horns breakout. The horns each get their own plug and then there is a white plug. The white plug has a blk wire and a brown w/ white stripe. But that isnt the same shape as the fan plug and the female spades are orientated like this... I - in the socket. So that cant be it. There is no other breakout in the large harness.

I know its a lot to ask, but could you snap a pic?

kenny senter 06-04-08 03:43 PM

well, I went and took some more pics of the harness and connectors up front. Here is what I came up with...

and yes, I guess someone tried to tow the car by the crossbrace in front of the oil cooler and effed it all up. grrrrr

I just looked at my old 86 that has no fan. But, that two socket female plug is plastic tie wrapped to the large harness that runs below the horns. I might do the picture, might not.

Did your car come with A/C?

See if you have the fan relay or not.

kenny senter 06-04-08 03:46 PM

I believe the car came equipped with a/c but honestly I dont know how I can verify that. I didnt do any retro-fitting myself and the previous owner didnt either, but who knows the 21 year history honestly.

I have such pretty hands, lol.

FAN

This is better.

kenny senter 06-04-08 04:23 PM

my car must not be equipped. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me.

So now I suppose I'm looking to run a relay from an a/c switched source (compressor wire maybe) to trigger the fan.

Whats the consensus on that?

Look around the relay area for a six socket plug with a yellow/black wire in it. Much like the one in the picuture attached.

There will be no relay itself. Just a six socket plug tied to the harness somewhere below/around the relays.

kenny senter 06-04-08 05:11 PM

aight. I'm gonna go look. Once again, your help is really appreciated.

kenny senter 06-04-08 05:16 PM

not in there

HAILERS 06-04-08 05:41 PM

Well, one of those relays is the Main A/c relay. It has four wires. One Blue/Black, one Red/Yellow, one Black/White, one Blue/White. See if you can find that.

The Black/White goes to the clutch on the compressor. It supplys power to the compressor. So you could tap into that wire for the fan. The other wire on the fan could just be connected to gnd in any fashion you wanted. Fan should turn on anytime the a/c is turned on if you do that.

kewl. Another project for another day. Its dinner date time. I so much appreciate your help today.
