buying parts
 

im looking to pick up a few things for my fc now that i got a scond job and money. give me some sugestions on brands and ideas, thanks guys.
im looking for coilovers(mite be picking up a friends stances), a big brake kit, a new hood(cuz mine is stock and primer black on a red car), short shifter, header(for vert), possibly new mufflers i currently have a custom header back exhaust into the borla mufflers but i want a pair with bigger tips :p the borlas look almost stock. all suggestions appreciated

Save some money and don't buy a big brake kit just yet.
After all the Vert is not a powerhouse that needs Bigger brakes to stop all that "motion"!.And unless you are gonna slap a Big ass engine into it and put it on the track,the BB kit is not really a necessity for street use.

Yeah dont get brakes just get a nice set of rotors and some hawk or ebc pads with some good bite. PBM makes a reasonably priced coilover for 1k. As far as exhausts go just look around for a used apexi n1 dual or a RB true dual. Ebay sells short shifters for around 30 bucks that work rather well.

well i plan on a full rebuild for this up coming summer. porting and turbo, so i want to peice together the cheaper end of the rebuild

Head down to the local bank and talk to a financial advisor about some kind of high return investment account. Deposit said money into said account to build at least some kind of savings, then revisit the car when you no longer need a 2nd job to cover it.

That said, if you must spend money on the car, spend it on getting it back to factory perfect and safe condition. Replace ball joints, tie rods, bearings, suspension bushings, etc. etc. Fix all the leaking door and trunk seals, replace all the worn out rubber under the hood, new PD, etc.

The best advise is rarely followed..... which is what Aaron offered here.

If I was to narrow down the pool of advice to those which the OP might follow here is what I would offer. Be a baller on a budget.

1. Skip the coilovers. Buy used lowering springs that will give you a 1.5-2.0 inch drop (H&R, Intrax) and buy all new struts. Nothing fancy, just the cheapest you can find at autopartswarehouse.com. This will give you the "slammed" look at a fraction of the cost and with the new struts it will actually ride decent and corner much better than stock. Less than $350 for all this.

2. BBK is a huge waste of money unless you are a hard parker. Get a decent set of pads that will grab a little better. Turn the rotors and there you are on the breaking department. $100-150 for all this.

3. Get a used Racing Beat header and presilencer. Keep in mind that adding a Apexi N1 catback or similar is going to make the car loud as #$%*^. If you are okay with that go for it. Look for something used in good shape. Another option is Corksport if you want to buy something on the more affordable end. Less than $500 for all this.

This will give you a good bang for buck in the performance and "baller status" looks/sound department. If you can install all the parts yourself and don't overpay you could get all the above done for under $1k. The vert acually looks pretty good lowered on the stock 15" BBS's.

i just got a vert, and i like the bring it back to 100% idea. its fun car!

1. i like the stock suspension, but its too high. plenty of used lowering springs. eibach is probably the best, intrax are the worst.

1b. i'm thinking about camber plates, which means 2.5" springs (eibach,hypercoil)

2. +1, buy nice pads, some braided lines, and good fluid.

3. i did the exhaust. i took the stock exhaust apart, the manifold exit is 50mm, the front pipe, and front cat are 44m.... a little time with a die grinder and its all 50mm, into an HKS cat back = done. the engine really liked it, it was simple and the price was right!

On exhaust: do NOT buy Pacesetter/Monza.. It will NOT fit at all on a vert [I tried ^_- It goes straight through the front subframe brace..]

Save up for some nice tires.. It's funny when you can outrun someone with more power in the corners because you have more grip. [My friend has much better grip than I do, but I'm faster in a straight line..]

Keep exhaust, no Big brakes, just get the stance coilovers with nice wheels and maybe a front lip. And continue hard maintenance.

good point. you don't need great tires, but good ones actually really makes a difference. get the right size too, my vert has 215/65/15's on it, and they are really just too tall. NA's like short tires

over the summer ill be making about 2k a week so saving wont be a problem, and the car is already stock other than the hearder back and a filter. it also doesnt leak.

i want the stances for ajustability, the exhaust ill have to find header that fits(suggestions??), i can deal with the mufflers. im 50/50 on the brakes, weather i should just get new stuff or new and bigger, i was just thinking and idk if a bbk will fit in the 15'' rims. and i want to wake my neighbors up at 3am when i get home so no presilencer:p i already have no cats. i would love new rims and tires but thats big money for right now, business is slow in the winter, a possiblility in the summer though. i also want a t2 hood

At least he's got the right idea... Asking about suspension and grip. Whereas most people come in here asking about "cold air" intakes, body kits, and slapping on massive turbos.

You will notice a great difference doing these things. Even though these aren't crazy awesome JDM "aftermarket" modifications... This will give you a sturdy platform to build from. (Whether you're looking to modify or not.)

i appreciate all thoughts lol. there making me think. i want the coils because its my dd and i want it to look better, the car is too high right now. i was looking into bushing kit and im deffinatly going to upgrade, same with the tie rods control arms, and some extra bracing, 23 years on the same suspension isnt the best idea.

it depends on how far you wanna go with it... and you have to account for changing your mind like 72 times in the middle!

i did one with a friend, and everything was either new mazda parts, replated, or powder coated. car came apart to the shell and got painted (twice!).

it took FOREVER, and it was awesome to get the CAR dirty assembling it.

the bill? somewhere in the 50K USD range.

i had the rear subframe powder coated, that was 300 alone, i have hit just south of 11g.......
so, i understand costs building up, specially after changing an idea
